The Cove - 2009 winner best Oscar Documentary about dolphin catching in Japan. I was distraught after watching it, deeply upsetting. 7/10

Bernie - Surprisingly enjoyed it. I'm not a fan of Jack Black but I was pleasantly surprised. 9/10.

    Negative Happy Chainsaw Edge (LINK)

A very unusual supernatural love story from Japan. It's about an aimless high school boy who meets a lonely high school girl who just happens to be a skilled warrior. Every night, with his help, she fights a very large supernatural being who wields a massive chainsaw. The violence is very minimal - there's really no blood and there's no body parts flying around. But then again, that's not the point of this film. It's more about the 2 kids and their issues. It's a surprisingly good film.

It's available on Netflix (streaming video only).

    The Chronicles of Riddick 7/10
Just high octane action. Little disappointed with what they did to Jack as a character but of course Vin Diesel is what you watch this movie for.
Got me stoked for the new Riddick movie

The Ghosts of Berkley square 6/10
Pleasant enough film for it's age. A little bit hit and miss though and loses points for the "rajah" character.

Fancied some scifi so watched The Fifth Element and Gattaca.

Totally forgot that Bruce Willis was in The Fifth Element
Also had a few comic bits that I didn't remember.

Noted a line in Gattaca about Vincent being child of God or similar. Given the technology used in the film and the place where they work I would have assumed that not messing with genes/DNA would be a child of nature?

I really enjoyed that film, thought Black was superb :)

    Bullet To The Head

Reminded me of an 80s film, if the Korean guy had been replaced by Eddie Murphy it would have been perfect. Great popcorn film, lots of action, mindless violence and Sly kicking ass.

    Kongen av Bastøy/King of Devil's Island - 2010

This has just been shown on BBC4 and it's a dramatisation of the 1915 rebellion among the boys at the reformatory on the island of Bastøy, south of Oslo. The boys rebelled over inhumane treatment and the revolt had to be stopped by the use of troops. It was one of the most powerful and effective dramas I've seen in a long time.

I watched the second of the Scorpion Tales (yeah it isn't a movie, but.....), 'Killing'. The computer they were using (this was made in 1978) was amazing. Massive tape spools and all that. I recognised the main actor, but couldn't put a name to him. I thought it was Paul Darrow off Blake's 7 at first. Only realised it was the guy who played Wycliffe when I had another look at the credits.

Anyway, it was very good! I will almost certainly re-watch this one. The 'sting in the tail' was much more effective than the one in 'Easterman', too.
