My absolute number one has got to be Lisa McAllister on BBC's North West Tonight. I know she is probably not known to the rest of the country but here in the NW she's a roving reporter for our local evening news. OMG! what a voice, it's dreadful. She's from Northern Ireland but that's not my beef. I don't mind any accents at all but I think hers is made up! I have to flick over or mute the tV when she's on.
Number two is has to be someone called Claire Fisher who narrates Dickinson's Real Deal ( I know, I know, anyone who watches that must be really sad) and she's from up here somewhere so again, nothing against northern accents. I must have one myself I suppose! She talks to the audience as though they're five years old. Again, the mute button comes into play.
Number three is Lyn Bowles, the traffic totty on Radio 2 in a morning. Will someone tell her to stop trying to be funny or clever. She just isn't! Come back Fran or Fenella, all is forgiven.
Number four is Angela Rippon on any programme at all. How affected can one person be! She's especially irritating on Sun Sea & Bargain-spotting ( yes, I know, sad again but we used to sell at antiques fairs ourselves so always interesting to see items) and again talks as though we're kids. I hate her correct pronunciation of the places too. Yes, I know you should try and pronounce foreign place-names correctly but she just has an irritating way of doing it. Mute button again I'm afraid.
I'm sure there are lots more but they are the four who always prompt me to rant a bit and make a dive for the remote.

Add to that, Fearne Cotton, on TV or radio. She has a really whiny voice with a forced London-ish accent. It's horrible to listen to!
Oh, and Lorraine Kelly *shudders*
They should send her to work in Northern Ireland where she won`t sound so annoying.
Also send Edith Bowman back to Scotland.. hate her!
Jo Whiley, send her to some muddy tent at some festival where she belongs.
Sara Cox, send her to a speech therapist cos she shouldn`t be on the radio.
Scottish News have just Scottish Reporters
Northern Irish has Irish Reporters
Welsh has Welsh
But North West England has Northern Irish, Indian, Pakistani and Nigerian.
I look forward to all your liberal lovie dovie brainwashed comments "Ooh thats cos its a representation of the North West"
Well 75% of the North West aint Foreign.. YET
When I saw the topic title, this woman IMMEDIATELY sprang to mind!:D
There's a blonde Welsh actress from Gavin and Stacey (I think her name is Joanna?) who's voice reeeeally grates on me...because in interviews she goes on and on and on and on and never shuts up!
I agree with Jacqui Oatley. I'm all for women commentators in football...but not her. Please not her!:o
Sally, Janice, Claire and Fiz from Coronation Street. Laurel from Emmerdale. Bianca from EastEnders. Bridget from Neighbours.:o
Ruby Wax. 'Nuff said.:D
No equivalent website available for Granada, but here's the blog of the show with presenter information.
Just as you said, overwhelming foreign.
It's great to see so many people agreeing with me and I have to agree about Fearne Cotton although she doesn't annoy me quite as much as Cat Deeley who is another one of my pet hates. I don't know Jo Whiley or Jacqui Oatley but I'll make sure I don't find out who they are!
Why are so many of the women on TV so irritating? I hardly ever get cross with male presenters or stars even though I sometimes don't like them.
Btw if we're talking about North West news presenters I really like Ramvir Singh and Anabel Tiffin. Both of them are well fit (sorry to sound like I'm about 13 but for some reason that's what they bring out in me...)
Linda 'Boring' Bellingham
Fern 'Patronising' Britten
Judy 'It's Nerves, not Alcohol' Finnigan
Fizz 'Screech' of Corrie
Julie of Corrie
Scouser Rooney
Ann Robinson
I said Reporters... not Presenters...
I can't even begin to explain it, but her voice makes me think of stinking cow dung.
i think her name is
a presenter on ideal world -- turn her staright off
She does love herself doesnt she
Yes from the "professional school of Notherners ala Jane McDonald
As for condesending voices
Lorne Spicer; a voice so bad its a wonder the ships dont sound their foghorn in response Lowri Turner; look at me look at me I'm so wonderful Jenni Falconer; Words fail me Amanda "Botox Princess" Holden ;stupid bint who thinks she is an odds on cert for world domination
Surely surpassed only by QVC 'beauty expert' Alison Young? A voice as soothing as nails being dragged down a blackboard:p
Speaking of QVC (which i wasnt )
Julia Roberts (married name Maxwell) same name but none of the talent, used to think Debbie Flint was bad:eek:
It's not so much the voice as the river of horsesh*t it speaks.
Oh yes
Natalie Casey of Two Pints of Lager, with a typical loud mouth northern fishwife voice.
Ashley Slanina Davies of Hollyoaks, a person who not only looks like they are sucking a mouth full of lemons but speaks like it to the way she mangles he words.
Holly Willoughby. Should only be used for eye candy purposes and not speak at all as she talks like a boy whose voice is about to break.
All the women in EastEnders, for shouting everything they say.
Yep the Dire women fuelled by 40 **** a day
Also agree re Lisa McAllister - It's the strangest NI accent I've ever heard;).
My main one though is Carol McGiffin from Loose Women, surely the most shrill, irritating annoying voice ever especially when she gets annoyed and it gets so high only dogs can hear her.
