I watched Tyrannosaur recently. Written and directed by Paddy Considine.

It was very disturbing but an amazing movie. If you haven't already - watch it!

    Captain America : Winter Soldier

Was enjoyable as Marvel films go but in my opinion it wasn't as great as what others have suggested. I think the new X-Men film looks more promising.

    7.5/10

The Day the Earth Caught Fire (1961) 7/10 The end of the world is nigh! You'll recognise some of the extreme weather patterns in this movie to those of today! Rain, fog, drought and so on. In this movie they are less natural events and more man made. A number of simultaneous atomic, (again!), explosions knock the Earth off its axis and sends it spiralling towards the sun. A jaded journalist uncovers the story with the aid of a Met office secretary as the authourities begin to ration the water and the worlds governments come up with a plan to save us all. Like Rocketship XM eleven years earlier, the clever use of a red tint is used in an otherwise B&W movie but this time to give the impression of extreme heat. An intelligent sci-fi movie which does not rely on special effects but rather on characterization and some great dialogue scenes.

Love this film ! such a touching film in places ...like the good touch in the scene near the end of the film when the bombs are set off at the end the dust falls from the ceiling in the pub !

Earth vs. the Flying Saucers (1956)

This was on Crackle UK before it was recently closed down. The plot was OK and the effects were good for their time because they were done by legendary special effects specialist Ray Harryhausen.

Verdict = 6/10 (and much better than the 2008 Keanu remake of The Day the Earth Stood Still)

Agree ! loved the funny spacemen in their silver suits :)

I love it too. It is one of the small handfull of movies I can watch any number of times.
Snappy dialogue and highly realistic footage of the newspaper offices and print rooms. Filmed at the premises of the great campaigning newspaper that was The Daily Express.
I say was, as this was before it turned into the porn Barrons play thing that it has become.
Arthur Christianson the Daily Express editor in real life played himself, and did very well for a non actor. The footage of the old Battersea fun fair is a treat for any one who remembers it as it was. The science doesnt stand up of course but a cracking fast paced yarn none the less that could teach a lot to the CGI obsessed studios now. Priorities the right way round.
    1 Great Script
    2 Great actors
3 Great special effects ( for its day)
Sadly nowadays they seem to stack in the reverse order.

Alice In Wonderland (Tim Burton) - 7/10 - Amusing but prefer the animated Disney version

Jeepers Creepers - 7.5/10 - Solid scary movie, good acting, original idea, although I suppose the creeper is an extreme version of Buffalo Bill (Silence of the Lambs) :D

Woman in Black - and it scared the bejesus out of me. 9/10. I knocked a point off as although I think Daniel Radcliffe played the part very well, he was much too young.

Would have been better if they'd bothered to have a proper middle and an ending.

Pulp - an obscure Michael Caine movie from 1982, filmed in Malta but not a great film Micky Rooney overacts dreadfully and the plot, such as it is, is almost non existant.
