GTA Online - Micro transactions confirmed
What are people's thoughts?
Personally I am only a fan of micro transactions if the game is free or if the content doesn't give an unfair advantage. If you've paid £40 for the game then anything on that disc should be free, unless it clearly states a further subscription is required.
Rockstar don't usually shaft fans with things like DLC, so I'm hoping you can't just pay to win or pay to gain an unfair advantage.

Not essential but it will most likely be used my folks to get stuff quick.

Some items are only available when you hit certain ranks, though, it seems... see BIB...
I don't want to be playing a game and then all of a sudden i see i something need to pay for with real money, it takes all the fun out of playing games.
Not read post #2 then, have you?
This is not the case with micro transactions in GTAO. All you can do is speed up the accumulation of in-game money. Even then, many objects are locked to players until they reach a certain level so folk can't just spend loads of money and have significantly better stuff at low levels.
but they will have it unlocked when they get to the level when the rest of us would have to grind it. So its an unfair advantage for the people who are willing to spend real cash.
If folk are daft enough to fork out real money then good luck to them!
but if i am at a disadvantage and getting beaten in multiplayer because I didn't fork out then its good luck to GTA
In which case they've already made their money! Plus more from muppets buying in-game cash...
Well no, ill sell my game on and they will lose a purchase. So its a loss for them.
Drop in the ocean to them but if it makes you happy.
FrankieFixer makes a good point.
But it doesn't make me happy I was looking forward to multiplayer.
But its simple mathematics, if I or others find we are getting beaten in multiplayer because we wont shell out money then we will sell our game. Our used games on the market will cost them the price of new games.
The servers for the multi-player cost money to run, micro transactions will cover this cost as well as all the free updates it will be getting to add content.
EA did the same with ME3 multiplayer but it turned out good as people like me didn't spend a penny but got loads of free content adding updates for free.
The Beach Bum Pack: Featuring 4 new amazing beach fun vehicles, over 300 new items of incredible down tempo leisure wear and 2 new but not remotely relaxing weapons.
Capture the Flag: GTA Online’s take on the classic CTF mode including the ability to make your own using The Content Creator.
Heists: This update will introduce full-on cooperative Heist missions that will require careful planning, teamwork and sharp execution – along with the Heist Planning Board for your apartment.
All just announced as free updates that will be rolling out soon after the Online goes live on the 1st.
CTF could be really interesting.
Rockstar will be accepting feedback and ideas for the service and actually encourage you to get in contact, from the 1st of October, you can e-mail Rockstar on GTAOnline@rockstargames.com in regards to any feedback, ideas or just general questions about the overall GTA Online experience. So those of you actually saying you're going to trade the game in etc, they won't see that, keep the game, actually get in touch, let them know what you think, try and give them other ideas on what YOU'D like to see in the game.

I like the sound of this. The races in the single player were a bit of a let down for me, I cant believe they didn't include a race around the island highways. So having the option to make your own race will be nice.
How many players are going to be required for a Heist?
I play a lot of cooperative games with my mate so would like it if the Heists were possible with just two people. I know I can always find other people to do them with but it would be nice if we could play some of the Heists with just the two of us as that is how we enjoy playing coop.
Also how is voice chat going to work, is it between crews, with people near by or server wide? Again we like playing with others but sometimes it nice to just group up with only people you actually know.
Well release DLC as game types then? Don't unbalance the game in favour of the rich. Its disappointing to say the least that Rockstar have gone down this route.
Tongue, remove, their arse.
Truth is they are providing a lot, which will be free, the next few weeks content and updates are all free and still being added into the game on top of what's already there, if you're going to miss out on that just because they give people the option of buying in game money then, well, you're the one missing out but you still should send an e-mail off to that address to at least highlight your issue and I encourage everyone else to do the same, use that e-mail address, give actual feedback for this on going online mode.
Ash they may provide "a lot" but as long as the guy or girl with most real life money has a better chance of winning they can go **** themselves.
And selling my game will affect them as its another used copy on the market which means its a sale they will lose out on. That is my way of sending them a message. So instead of me spending money on potentially good DLC (which I have no problem with, and if the multiplayer was good enough then I would have done) I'll put a preowned copy out there so they lose my potential DLC purchase and a new game sale. That seems better to me than an email that wont be read.
I have principals. Laughably I wont change them (unlike most gamers) just because a company or a game that I love (used to love) decides to do something which I am against.
From the earlier Eurogamer link quoted above:
Just going to say again, your method of sticking it to them isn't going to work, and again, there's an e-mail, they are looking for feedback, why avoid that? You say they wont read it, they actually do, it may take a while, but most of that stuff, especially on the feedback side does get seen.
And buying In Game Cash won't make another player suddenly, unless you think having more clothing and other small things is going to throw you off, but again, if you feel so strongly about this, send them an e-mail on October 1st!
It's just bizzare that you have a chance to get your opinion across and instead, you're avoiding it and just selling the game, which really doesn't make a difference.

I really don't see the problem with this.
Your £40 has got you the main game, which itself is huge and has a tonne of things to do and makes it far better value than many other games that get finished in 10 hours or less and then traded in.
In addition to that, you also get GTA Online as a free add-on, adding even more content, even more stuff to spend countless hours on.
GTA Online itself is getting further expansions, adding more game types and enabling the game to evolve and grow.
From the apparent size of it, they probably could easily have released GTA Online as a totally separate paid game, instead of it being made available for free to everyone who has already bought GTA V.
So if some people buy in game currency so they can buy a house or gun earlier (bearing in mind the previous Rockstar comment about it being balanced for the majority who won't pay, and the Eurogamer comment about extra money not being much use until you have already levelled up anyway), then... so what?
but it does make a difference, every used game on the market costs them a new game sale. Like I said if i'm losing because I wont buy the faster car, the better guns etc then Im not interested in the game. If its purely cosmetic, which from what I have been reading it wont be then I don't really care.
