Catch Up TV - Adult Content

What is your opinion on Virgin Media using CUTV to put some of their adult content on CUTV in the form of shows on Bravo like 'Sin Cities: Porn vs Art' and 'Sin Cities: Porn Virgins'?

There is no PIN-protection from seeing the descriptions or the names of these shows, and I'm not sure about you but every person in this house knows our PIN and could easily end up viewing content that is definately not suitable for them!

There are other shows like 'Shock Video' which really is apparently quite shocking and this is listed on CUTV next to 'Big Barn Farm' on CBeebies!

Do you think VM should reserve these shows to a different folder or category or does it not bother you whether young children see words like 'Porn' and lead to some awkward questions? Is the PIN meant to be the lock on these shows and so letting your kids know it is poor form?

I think it could have them in a different folder, but is explaining what 'Porn' means really that awkward?

Here, I think the answer is a simple yes. The alternative would be to have different PINs for different things, which could get very complicated and confusing.

If everyone in your household knows the pin then surely you don't have a problem with them seeing adult material? Despite the name you can rest assured this won't be anything like proper porn!

It's fine in this house only it's not the same for all VM customers.

It's not going to be proper porn, just a few pairs of boobs jiggling around in front of the camera from time to time. Nothing outrageous.

Just a thought. Would it be a good idea to have two different sets of PIN numbers. One PIN to be able to watch programs or movies that require an PIN because they are post-watershed but are free to air. And a second PIN that is exclusively used to purchase Filmflex/Adult content.

The reason i suggest it is because i'm sure there are some families who don't mind their teenage kids watching post-watershed movies so don't mind them having the PIN for those but wouldn't want them to know the PIN for Filmflex/Adult movies because of them either running up a big bill or to prevent them seeing unsuitable content.

A good suggestion or am i talking rubbish?

I think you need to have a look at some of those "Sin City" programmes before you comment further. They use pixellation to cover some of the more explicit stuff, but it's obvious real sex is taking place. It's certainly not just "a few pairs of boobs".

To be honest, for every thread like this one suggesting an enhancement to the PIN protection, there are several others demanding it's complete removal!

Should there be a secondary PIN for adult-rated material as well as one for the PPVs? I doubt it, I think it would just cause more confusion.

Bravo Channel - Porn Week - around 11pm i think

Tell me that doesnt deserve to be away from Tweenies!!

I am no prude and love my adult stuff but i have to admit that this particular show shocked me that it was allowed on regular tv at night. It was poorly edited and rarely blurred out and basically amounted to as much nuddity and more hardcore in short snippets as you would get on Television-X or Playboy.
Some of the non-blurred stuff was 100% nudity, penises, woman totaly naked and open legged..... in fact the only bit blurred was the genital area during penetration, the rest of the sex action and nudity remained un-blurred and very easy to guess how it was moving around in the blurred section of the screen.

Give it a watch one night when you have privacy and tell me whether you think it should have been shown on Bravo or some other channel.
Personally I think a lot of this semi-porn stuff that appears on the likes of Bravo etc should have its own dedicated channel and that it should be free like Bravo is but would need a call to CS to get it activated and worked on a Pin Number like the Movie Channels do in the day. That would be 2 lots of protection (account holder requesting it activated and also Pin Protection) while allowing all the naughty stuff Bravo etc show on the one channel that people who want it can watch happily.

If parents do not want children to watch adult stuff the do not let them know the PIN. That is what it is for. Its why I have to suffer this annoyance in a house with no children.

Channel 5 and Bravo has some pretty explicit sex after 11pm. Surely any child should not be watching 18 rated stuff.
I think violence in films is more worrying. I quite enjoy "Girls guide to sex" and Shock Video

Where TV channels have to cater for many people and tastes I think it is only to be expected that some mild porn will be on normal channels. If everything porn or remotely porn related was only on dedicated channels I think a lot of channels would would show repeates etc. Even some shows such as Eastenders can get steamy on occasions.

It may be beneficial for the PIN system to be enhanced so parents had more control and even an open to just disable PIN for users who don't need it. The truth is that VM can't do everything and whilst PIN enhancement may be beneficial it is up to the parents to make sure their children don't see unsuitable material. If the whole family knows the pin then it is surely the parents who are at fault. Any security system is only ever as good as the weekest link and this would appear to be the weakest link.
