Well unless it ganchoed back it should be the chair that would be saying ouch, Life as a chair in your house does seem to be rather more interesting than that enjoyed by your average chair though! :D

BTW I know you like a bit of pedantry so I think you might like to consider 'enganchar' to hook in this context. Gancho is more of a noun - a hook compared to the act of hooking - engancho, enganchas etc etc;)

    ¿Yo? ¿Un pedante?

But in Espanglish ganchoed is correct. As is luncheado and hoovereado. But perhaps if somebody ever wrote a text in Espanglish most words have the noun in English and the gerund in Spanish ;)

But yes in Spanish it would be "he enganchado" or even "enganché" :p

Not absolutely sure what type of music people are looking for on this thread. Traditional, modern AT, Nuevo/Neo Tango or non-tango music suitable for dancing.

Have 100s of bits of music and lots of favourites, but decided to go for three modern pieces that are danceable - definitely not some people's taste but are regularly played and I like dancing to them.

I've picked these clips a) because they show dancing and b) I think its great to see AT can be contemporary.

Not classic Argentine Tango, but I wonder if these would work -

Not for me chacha. Both classic songs. But personally I don't see an AT fit. I'm one of these house pedants that likes Tango music with AT.

But I love modern Gotan Project and prefer most of Nuevo Tango to traditional tango music. They have captured the essence of Tango and have added, what can I say other than "forro" (fur/body/lining) or "morbo" (earthiness/sexiness) ;)

    Here is the channel

Indeed it would be he enganchado but I felt that was moving from pedantry to plain showing off!!!:p

Loved hooverado - I wonder what the Spanish is for hoovering. Come to think of it I don't recall ever having seen a hoover in Spain

Wow. Thanks so much. Hit my buttons perfectly. Delightful all three of them. :D

Personally I am looking for genuine tango and nuevo tango music suggestions.

Others might want classic tracks to go with an Argentine Tango to make the AT more gringo/guiri friendly - SCD style.

BIB I think any of the above are acceptable. I think the rhead was started on the back of the Strictly Salsa thread to share music that was suitable and had the right atmosphere, tempo and beat for the dance (salsa or AT). Or in other words tracks that would be better than taking the latest pop favourite and shoe horning it to become a salsa, Argentine tango or what not.

So please share away - I would love to hear.

If I may cite Anthro it would not be too hard to agree with:

Wow WOW and Double WOW. Loved these three. The last one is familiar not the melody but the backing I recognise. If you have more like these Gritty please bring them on (and send a file to the SCD produceers while you are at it - they might get the hint)

Super videos the only edge I can find to pick at is the outfit of the follower in the first link is not to my liking. It looks like her bloomers are showing.

Dashing off to have another look ... :p

No head contact in the Villurca dance.

What do you think of blokes dancing tango with their shirts out? Looks really scruffy to me but perhaps acceptable or even cool to many of you.

Scruffy is fine for salsa / merengue / cumbia but surely not for tango.

It depends on the dance .. and come to think of it the shirt... and ........indeed the man. Some men could dance with anything they liked hanging out and I would still stop and watch ;)

Yes so would I. I have just had a little try out using my kitchen counter as a partner (He's rather wooden and doesn't emote well I am afraid) and I could make that work.

Of the two suggestions from chacahavvy above; Apache is the better of the two but even then - they don't say AT to me.

LOL I was running it through in my head at the bus stop. Then realised I was swaying:o

This might be a suitable number - it might take us to the zenith of AT:

I have been at tango class tonight and was given a CD by someone with this track on it. I havebn't made up my mind about it yet so thought I would put it out there partly for general critique.

But also becasue even if the music is a miss I have a feeling HW58 will enjoy the pictures.;)

Thanks so much. Nice music and pictures.

But funnily enough seeing a woman dance the tango in anything is so much more erotic.

I don't know if I am odd, but heels, stockings / tights / suspenders and frilly underwear just do not do it for me. Plain white cottons, bare legs and feet and I'm captivated. Just sayin'.

Thinking about it especially after Karen's talk on ITT yesterday I very much doubt the theory that the tango was danced by gauchos visiting city bordellos.

The tango originated in industrial working class clubs in Buenos Aires and Montevideo. The pampas with its gauchos (cowboys) are a good 1000 kms away around, sa, Merdedes inland. Quite a distance for a night out on horseback and no time to get on to the post-dance nitty gritty (no relation to our Gritty of course)

1000 miles on horse back would explain why they were so niffy though. However I would hazard a guess that that sort of post-dance nitty gritty is a fairly rapidly concluded transaction

I know the Tango ti Evora track. I love it, It sounds like the guitar is crying - sad but beautiful.

And the BIB is my kind of tango. Or at least what I aspire to. Simple steps executed with precision in sympathy with the music and of course each other (the couple I mean). I would take this over flash and trash any day of the week.

I say to guys all the time that i would rather (in salsa In AT or any dance) dance with a guy who only knows 5 or 6 figures, but leads them perfectly, listens to the music and places the steps in that musical context well and on time, than dance with the guy that knows a 100 things and throws them in any old how. One of my favourite salsa partners is a guy that only uses about 6 combintations but can do more with those five than others can with a huge repetoire.

As a parting remark before heading for bed I noticed in the clips of Nicky's AT tonight that he also fails to collect between steps.

So that's bent knees, no frame, curled over and in shoulders, tilted forward waist/hip, hip sway and no collect at the brush point. Unless a transformation takes place before tomorrow night I fear we will see an Argentine Tango in which all the characterisitc elements of an Argentine Tango have been eliminated. Curious approach.

I have no idea what the music will be - teddy bears picnic perhaps?

BIB I think any of the above are acceptable. I think the rhead was started on the back of the Strictly Salsa thread to share music that was suitable and had the right atmosphere, tempo and beat for the dance (salsa or AT). Or in other words tracks that would be better than taking the latest pop favourite and shoe horning it to become a salsa, Argentine tango or what not.

Thank you for this very informative, illuminating and enjoyable thread. I should have been in bed ages ago, but have had a very pleasant time instead trawling through the bordellos of Buenos Aires (or so Len, Karen and Ian would have us believe).

I have some sympathy for the music beavers at Strictly, who are busy looking for music with the right tempo for a particular dance, which might need lyrics that are relevant for that particular celebrity AND which is familiar enough for the audience at home. The Argentine Tango is therefore a particular challenge, given that it's fairly specialist (and therefore unfamiliar) music, frequently without lyrics or sung in an entirely different language. Hence the familiar songs shoehorned into ATs that drive the purists insane with rage.

It was interesting to listen to the different versions of Besame Mucho that were posted earlier - AT, cha-cha or even rumba, depending on which version of the song is played. Slow it down, speed it up - you too can make your favourite song into a tango soundtrack!

Personally, they could just play Libertango for EVERY Argentine Tango featured on the show and I'd be happy, but then I am very, very ignorant about AT music. Having said that, I downloaded the Caro Emerald CD when she sang That Man on the show last year (Pasha and Katya danced a fast and furious jive to it), and was struck by how many of the songs would suit Ballroom and Latin dances. There's even a Charleston on there, as well as The Other Woman, which I think would make a fine AT, albeit not a sweaty gaucho one.

Really like the Caro Emerald track - The Other Woman. The lyrics work for tango, so I think it would work as a Strictly Argentine Tango. In my imagination, it works much better than Skyfall by Adele.

I rarely post on the AT's because my mother taught me to say nothing if I didn't have something nice to say!! But if Nicky's posture is anything like that seen on the training clips and the routine gets a) good comments b) good marks - I may have to come on here to vent!

Well we can vent together I had the same formative instruction as you but I think it is OK to critically appraise a dance for not containing any of the elements of that particular dance (assuming that is what transpires tonight). I am not knocking Nicky only the dance.

A question of playing the ball NOT the man and that's sporting isn't it?
