The first ten seasons of The Simpsons are still amongst the greatest television ever, but it has been appallingly poor now for longer than it was excellent. I know the voice actors are extraordinarily well paid, but they can't have much pride in the garbage they're reading.
Family Guy was a refreshing change from the underpar Simpsons when it came along. It then went stale itself. American Dad is far better imo.
South Park is still the king though.
Never was a huge fan of the Simpsons.
At its best,( not the last 2 series though.) I like Futurama more than the other 3.
Edit......how could I forget South Park.
At their best I would go Futurama, Family Guy, Southpark, American Dad The Simpsons trailing in 5th.
Stewie and Brian or Steve and Rodger.
Stewie and Brian are still tops in my book.
At the moment I prefer Family Guy - although I think the last series was fairly weak. I still enjoy The Simpsons but I hardly watch the newer episodes, prefer the classics.
Must remember to make an effort to watch all the American dad episodes as I usually switch off after family guy
quality in recent times, so I'd pick Stan Smith & co.
Sky One sneakily mix old episodes in with new on their evening showings, and my heart always drops when I see the 'new' style opening credits, because it is almost guaranteed to be a disaster. There was an episode on yesterday which made my jaw drop with how bizarre and tasteless it was. It involved Bart dating a teenage girl who flashed her breasts at him and then began a secret relationship with him. What on earth were they thinking? Have they so run out of ideas that Bart is now a angst-ridden teen trapped in a ten year old's body? It was sick, sleazy garbage. Now sick and sleazy is something Family Guy can pull off because of its demographic, style and timeslot. The Simpsons is constrained, and so comes off as Family Guy for kids: lamely trying to be edgy but failing.
One of my favourite episodes of any cartoon is Road to Rhode Island and as a double act they are better than Steve & Roger and Homer and Bart/whoever else.
Infact Steve isn't that good a character imo. It's all Roger & Stan in American Dad.
Thabks to All this talk of American Dad I've series linked it on BBC 3 now!
And then they go cancel Futurama.. Again. Topsy turvy
