The storyline with the dead baby and wrongly-accused mother came to a bit of a predictable and half-hearted end. I liked the development of the main plot though.
I guess the earlier comment about the captive woman's family might be part-answered; if her sister was her only family, then she was dead in a basement!
Except at the scattering of the ashes it appeared her mother was there (and his)
Blonde in basement was Elisabet, Lucas Ballinger's missus. Brunette in basement was sister to the woman Lucas took back the woman to the warehouse, who turned out to be the sister of the brunette because he thought she was surety for Elisabet as he didn't know Hearns had already killed her?
More loose ends and hot air than a LibDem promise!
I know one has to take SW with a massive pinch of salt and that is part of the fun but there are limits and at another level this series highlights what is wrong with much British drama that foregrounds emotional intensity at the expense of believability! So much in last night's episode was overbaked or implausibly put together that I still have indigestion!
So the guy who was supposed to be dead in the mortuary is actually alive..and no-one spotted that...
& whats more managed to get past all the security measures, and gets out without anyone noticing? and Lady cop gets taken off case, then suddenly re-appears, and makes her boss out to be even dimmer than her.

On another point. When the DI & Jack went to Roper's flat, she unlocked the door by swiping her credit card down the door jam. I am pretty sure it was UPVC door that would have had a multi point mortice lock system which she would never open with a credit card. In addition, she swiped the credit card down part of the door where there is no lock. You could see the lock lower down. I doubt it's even possible to do that to a wooden door with a Yale lock it the manner she was supposed to have done it.
After she did it, Jack said "isn't that illegal?" What he should have said is "isn't that impossible?"

Oh all these implausibilities and I fully agree, but I still love this show :)

Ridiculous story - directors of a lab decide to poison people with anthrax to get their antidote sold.
Presumably we will find out what happens to the detective in a future episode, having just had an unarmed man shot against the instructions of her superior - or are they just going to leave that plot strand hanging.
Except at the scattering of the ashes it appeared her mother was there (and his)
Different victim. The victim being talked about having no relatives to report her missing was the woman abducted from the car and killed with the anthrax. The one who's ashes were scattered was the blonde from the basement.

Agh... see i was confused thinking that the blonde hadnt been reported missing either.
Blonde = ELizabeth
Brunette = Peta's sister
Woman in car = Peta who had no one to report her.
His wife was one of the two dead women found in the cellar at the start of Thursday's episode. Having said that, it was still strange he took the other women back instead of taking her to safety.
At that stage he thought his wife was still alive, and that by co-operating with Hearns he could keep her so.

That part might have been plausible if the writers had stopped there. The lab was legitimately researching anthrax (in order to produce the antidote) so why did it need to import then murder Serbians? Any new research needed to make the spores more virulent could have been done at the lab, either openly or as a skunkworks project.
We are all different thankfully - I cannot abide Amanda Burton (in anything), she seemed to have one simpering facial expression.
I much prefer the format of recent years but my jury is out on the new guy and I hate the 'hidden back story that suggests one thing and usually turns out to be nothing' nonsense they insist on doing with new characters.
I'm the same. I couldn't stand Amanda Burton in anything. But to my own surprise, I'm actually beginning to wish the series would go back to those days.
Is there a completely new set of writers for this current series ?
You always had to suspend belief when watching SW, but not to the extent of recent episodes. It appears to me as if they are trying to appeal to a completely different set of viewers, either that or we are watching a "jump the shark" moment.
It will interesting to see if they can keep old loyal viewers, or attract enough new viewers to make for those who decide to call it a day. I'll continue watching, if there's nothing better to do, but it's no longer in the "must see" category..even with the lovely Emilia Fox.

If we find out next week that the detective has been totally cleared by the police inquiry then that would the one and only realistic element in the whole programme.
There have been many innocent people shot dead by the police but none of the killers, or those who ordered the shooting, have ever been convicted of any offence.
Found the whole storyline ridiculous, but that's fairly standard for SW. I'm just not feeling the love for the Jack character in combination with Leo and Nikki. His Irishness and his cage-fighting just make the other two look like effete middle-class English fops.
The Clarissa character is interesting, but they need to give her more than four lines per episode if she's not just to be a token disabled person.

I agree with you about Jack. But as for Clarissa, why should she get more lines just because she is disabled? From what we have seen so far she is played by a perfectly decent actress who is entitled to be cast on merit, not as a token disabled person.

Yes, but I can see saralund's point; if you don't give the character any real reason for being there, it does begin to look tokenistic. It's a bit early to decide that yet, though. Maybe they've got something coming up.

Hopefully there WILL be a backstory for Clarissa (cf Jack's romantic history and off-duty hobby) which will establish that our interest in her character is more than that she's disabled.

I didn't really think she was that good an good actress.
She seems to be written as an annoying tv trope, the disabled snarker. I hope they do develop her beyond that though.

Oh please, not another backstory! Clarissa must have been introduced for a purpose but I'd far rather it were plot-related.
Perhaps there will be a compromise. There were hints when she was talking to Nikki that she may know what happened up north with Jack, the copper, the gangsters and the switched samples.

My thoughts exactly, no back stories please.
I'm really starting to dislike the Jack character - it's not working for me in this format.
Boring it may be but I would have preferred them to bring in another pathologist.

I don't understand how he joined the team after the briefest interview by Leo. Surely for that sort of job he would have to have had background checks. And the cage fighting thing is nonsense, it may or may not be illegal in itself , but beating people to a pulp is , even if they are willing participants.
I suppose we may get a really far fetched twist in that one of his cage fighting opponents dies and he is called in to investigate it and suppresses all the evidence .

Got it.
I can understand ex-soap stars, but did anyone else spot Danielle Lineker as a tv reporter?

I knew she was familiar but couldn't put a name ot her. Thanks for that!
Those teeth are very distinctive.
^ This.
