In The Metro today in their "Green Room"; Matt says "It is tough leaving Doctor Who..." not 'it will be tough'. It sounded very imminent the way it was worded

Perhaps Matt means it's tough leaving DW because Moffat ties him up and locks him in a cellar so that he can't escape, and won't let him out until he promises to do another series?;)

That is about as likely as a "register to view" site NOT giving me an overload of free toolbars and other guff. And can we not have any more Moffat-bashing please, there's enough! :D
PS: Anything about him being tied up in a cellar is probably just from the plot/filming of a future episode!

To be honest I think his time is clearly coming an end very soon as doctor and fans of a particular doctor/actor they get attached to don`t wanna accept it when the signs point to them leaving this has happened with almost every actor who has played the part since it started.
But the nature of the show is to change and evolve that's what has kept it going for so long in the first place, it keeps it refreshed with a new actor, new personality, new style and new direction of storylines and plots.
Personally I do think Matt will be leaving soon either at Christmas or sometime through series 8, I can`t see him doing the whole of series 8 and tbh that would be too predicable Doctors leaving at the end of a series just as it is with them leaving at Christmas onscreen.
Think they should go full circle. Give him a send off Xmas 2013 New Year 2014.
Do a two parter part 1 christmas night and part 2 new years day. That way he can be given the exit he deserves 12 can then start series 8 either in the spring or autumn fresh and establish his own identity.
I reckon Season 8 will be Split and the Regeneration will be the mid season cliff hanger
Could be. Have Matt regenerate one episode before the split. New Doctor tries to kill Clara in his first story, acts like a total arse throughout then six month wait for the next episode. That's what I'd do.

I'm sure that might have happened once before..................

Assuming he doesn't regenerate this year, I'll say (hopefully) all of Series 8.
Four full series will be a perfect amount for his Doctor I think.
I agree, four series is ideal for a Doctor.
I would love Matt to stay on for the whole of series 8, but I would like his new companion to be the 12th Doctor. A whole series with two Doctors would be amazing.

Sorry missed this. Can't c&p from there but it says: "Matt says leaving Doctor Who is a tough prospect: "I know being the Time Lord will define me for years to come, but I am happy with that"
I still think it is a safe bet we will have series 8 fully with him....2015 i reckon they will change it up a bit...i mean Smith and Colman are a great partnership and i would love the Moff to showcase them post-50th a lot more really....focus more on the SIlence arc and bring it to one massive epic end i think would be he best way to do it....then either have a massive finale with a regeneration and/or save for a two parter WInter adventure Xmas 2014/New Year 2015 and enter a new era then maybe....that would then be 5 full years and 4 full series.....and would do Matt such justice too
I would like him to stay IF they dial him down, and give him less zany and more meaty. I'd like a bit of evil(ish), manipulative, threatening Dr as he's looked really good when he's done stuff like that.
If however, they are going to keep directing him to play it like he's in panto, I'd rather he left. I think he's an amazing actor, who is being badly misused at the moment
I think it is looking more likely that Matt could be going because they're certainly not confirming him for Series 8 yet and already Jenna's been confirmed for the next series.

Maybe he hasn't made his mind up yet therefore they can't confirm or deny?

She hasn't been officially confirmed to be in it by the BBC. She has just said that she will be in it herself. That doesn't really say anything about Matt being in it or not.
I remember when it was announced David Tennant would be doing Hamlet and it was looking likely he would be going lots of people aggressively telling me on here it was time for him to go, three years was enough for a Doctor and if I wanted him to stay I was being selfish to the show and DT so I apply the same principle to MS. Three series is enough for any Doctor and it would kill the show if he stayed because "it's all about change"
3 series isnt enough! Im glad people like Tom & Jon did longer.
When do they start filming the Christmas special? Am just thinking, assuming it's say September... Is that long enough for his hair to grow back to the length it was? 4 months ish?
Then there was a rumour about there being secret castings for Doctor 12. A shock regen in the 50th perhaps?
Or has Matt been confirmed in the Christmas special? If so, ignore my idea!
I'm sure he has made his mind up and I'm confident there's a plan afoot.
Often (casting aspersions to no-one in particular) fans think as soon as they have had the thought to leave they inform the media, but they don't. When they decide it's often planned out when it will be announced.
But it's easier to say 'I've made no decision yet' when they're actually just waiting for the correct way and the right time.
That's why people like Jonathan Ross will grill people on answering because he knows how the game works.

Wishful thinking?

Well there is that.
If does Series 8, that will more than likely be his last series for the show.
