We have just moved into a new house and need to get one fitted as my cats love to be outside. Has anyone had any experience with doing this yourself or would it be better to get a professional to do it? I'm seeing conflicting reports on the web?
Thanks

They come with reasonably good instructions..... Good luck:)
The panel you fit it to should come out.
Just take the beading of around it first.
This is perfect for you, shows you how to fit a cap flap in about a 30sec video, tells you what you need and how to do it all in one!
I have to admit, videojug is my all time favouriite website!

Hope this helps you, just press play if the video doesn't start immediately!
If you don't want to do it yourself try and find an odd job man or phone round the sort of door/window firms that would have fitted it in the first place.
I do not (and probably will never) own a cat but for some reason i felt strangely compelled to watch the whole of that video!?!?!?!
LOL
I love that website, I've spent many hours watching videos on there, even videos I have no interest in but like you felt compelled to watch them!
My favourite is this, folding a t-shirt in two seconds, off topic, but handy! The bloke who turns to us and looks at the camera and shakes his head in confusion is amuzing!!

hahahaha you can come and fit me a catflap then
Thanks for all that - hubby will be doing it this weekend so hopefully he won't wreck the door!

make sure he either puts masking tape on the base of the jigsaw or masks the door panel , otherwise you stand to risk marking the panel
but if the bottom of the door has a panel in it, you might need a capflap that comes with a short tunnel that fits in the "hole" between the bits on each side of the door.
This prevents the polystryrene type material of the panel showing on the inner edge. when you cut into the panel.
Some versions designed for solid wooden door do not come with the tunnel.
hope this makes sense
