Whoever at the BBC decided against it, shame on them.

Who scrapped this? I'll release the hounds on them straight away! Heathen!!
Sigh. That's just so wrong.
Not only has DW benefited from exploring multiple media - books, comics, audios etc - arguably it is only around today because it was kept alive in the 1990s and early 2000s because of them.
Did Batman suffer from the fact that The Animated Series was around at the same time as the various movies? Anything but - the series was better than the 1990s movies, and the franchise was all the better for it.
Selfishness and power complexes are rarely pretty...
I think the rationale is perfectly sound. If I was producing a show I wouldn't want an animated version knocking about at the same time. As for "Selfishness and power complexes are rarely pretty" - well that's just daft.
Why? If Moffat didn't veto both the movie and the animated series, I happily withdraw my remarks. But if he did, saying in effect no-one else shall make visual Who however talented or original their ideas, then selfishness is a mild word for it...
But that isn't even what happened in the case of the movie. Books, comics, animated series, these are all spin-offs, additional media. These are all officially sanctioned and support the main series.
The 'discussed' movie involved a complete reboot of the series, a different continuity, different Doctor, etc. It would run in direct opposition to the TV series, split and confuse the audience.
Secondly, you're assuming it's Moffat alone that has the power and will to make these business-level decisions. There's no basis for that. No doubt he has a strong influences, but it's the execs that hold the purse-strings.
Thirdly, those sketches look bloody brilliant. I have no idea how it would have worked as a series, but I love the style.
To imagine that he personally made those decisions because he's "selfish" is simply ludicrous. Given that his main responsibility is to the regular TV series, ensuring that the TV series has the focus in that specific medium is entirely rational and sensible. In fact it's probably the only decision that could have made in the circumstances. A producer would be crazy to willingly dilute their product.
Regardless of whether you like him as a producer, he's just a bloke doing a job to the best of his abilities. Talking about selfishness and power complexes is fandom at its silliest.
They wouldn't even have had to write or record new stories.....they could have converted a bunch of Big finish stories into cartoon form. A shame.
It could certainly have filled in the gaps in between series'. There have been rather large gaps lately.
