Will Xbox One's graphics be a massive step up from the 360?
I am not very technically minded when it comes to hardware specs, but I watched the video on this http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/gaming/news/a488828/sunset-overdrive-announced-for-xbox-one-at-e3-2013-trailer.html and the graphics looked very meh, and no better than a decent 360 game
I had assumed there would be a massive improvement in how games looked, like between the original Xbox and the 360? Or ios the game I linked to just a bad example?

I think even a casual gamer will notice the number of on screen assets, resolution increase and smoother frame rates but you are right that texture quality and models have reach a peak. The photo realistic ideal is a long way off.
The leap from VHS to DVD was more noticeable.
This is fallout 3 on the PC http://fallout3.nexusmods.com/images/3102015-1344372597.jpg the game is over 4 years old and uses a third party app to force those effects, compare that to the current gen. The next gen will have those type of effects built in so should look even better.
I think that wasn't the best example, video quality was ok and it was more cartoony than a game going for realism.
Caller Doody aka "Call of Duty" may be a better example.
Just look at the equivalent specs of the 360 and what games it is still managing to play today. X1 is nothing short of a gamign beast.

I watched Ryse from the dash board and i thought the same. It may even sway me back towards the xbox one.
As usual, some gamers think a different gloss on a product makes the game better to play; all I've heard so far as sequels and similar games to what we've always been playing, just in different resolutions!
Whilst I disagree about your views on the realism, I agree with your second point. I expected more emphasis to be placed on new IP's. That's not to say there wasn't any shown, there were, I just expected a bit more.
Also, if you are happy with how a game plays then you should want something better to look at.
I doubt it. They never pushed the 360 to its limits. Many a times they never use the full disk capacity.
Indeed, and you only have to look at how popular Borderlands is to see that photorealism isn't what makes a game, it is the game play - hell, I've been playing Manic Miner, Hunchback and Kokotoni Wilf on a Spectrum Emulator recently and they are still great challenging games.
