Hopeless!
I want to get a Sim Free iPhone 5s and will then get a SIM only 4G Vodafone Red 12 month contract as I can get cashback which brings the total price lower than a 24 month contract with the same data (+ Vodafone are giving 4GB free a month at present on top of the 2GB allowance).
So went into the Apple store in Westfield this evening and as expected saw the 'Sorry we are out of stock' easel which said 'ask a member of our Genius staff for info on availability'. So that's exactly what I did.....
The answer was 'not a clue' - they have no idea when they'll get new stock and can only suggest coming back every day to check.
Same story for the Vodafone shop - they apparently have no idea what phones will turn up in each days delivery.
Is this any way to run a shop? Is it so they can pretend its Christmas each morning and excitedly open the boxes to see what they have got?
Am I the only one who thinks getting people to come back every day and desperately ask whether there are any iPhones in stock somewhat unsatisfactory?
(Before you say 'order it online' I work for a living and cannot be at home to wait for deliveries - work won't let us take deliveries at the office).
Now I find out that Apple in the US are showing store availability for the 5S online. Why the heck don't Apple do the same in the UK? Do they enjoy making us suffer?

Plus the online system does not give any special delivery options at present (e.g. Weekend delivery), only Standard delivery which as explained is absolutely no use to me.
Try eBay here is a 32Gb for only £900

Thanks - that helps me lots...not
Doesn't exactly help with the delivery problem and blows the budget and effectively second-hand.
I'm sure there must be an option to order it online then pick it up at a local Apple store.
There isn't. If you look at the Apple US store, you can order the 5C online and pick up from a store but not the 5S. In the UK you can't pick up orders from a store, you can only buy from a store if the product is in stock.
Order it online
Order from Amazon and get it delivered to one of their new lockers. Or just collect it from the delivery companies depot.
Or just wait a week or two and but it when the shops are back in stock again.
I actually use Amazon lockers loads - there is one just outside my office. But they have limitations on what they'll deliver there and an iPhone will almost certainly be too valuable.
I'll probably land up just waiting. My current EE contract is up on 22nd October and if I use a PAC before then I'll probably get an early termination penalty (despite the fact I will have paid up till 22nd already).
I had 2 grand burning a hole in my pocket so I've ordered one of each colour. Gold one for Sundays!
Ah - didn't know they had restrictions on them
They'll probably reintroduce this facility when the current rush is over. But at present they don't have to go out of their way to make things easy for buyers in order to sell stock.
Their couriers have probably had to suspend timed deliveries in order to maximise the number of deliveries (even though a lot of those are going to be 'no-one at home')..
Are you kidding?
If not then can I have a job where you work?:p
