Their music and her voice still give me goosebumps, even after 30 odd years. There will never be another voice to touch hers, it was unique, sad, sad story.
....and that`s why I watched the program...even though I had to be up at 6.30am this morning.....I should have sky+ the show...but I could`t drag myself away from the box....why are all the best programs on the TV aired at midnight:(

She had something special, the voice, nothing will ever match that voice of hers.

It was shown earlier at 9pm as well. I was going to watch it, but then I had visitors, so missed it. I then saw it was repeated later and fell asleep and missed it. aghhh I must learn to Sky+ things, just incase.
I saw them in concert in the early 70's in Bournemouth. I must have been around 12 or 13 and I was very impressed with them.
There's no questioning she was anorexic... but ask the right people around LA and they'll tell you that wasn't what killed her (although of course it didn't help).

Of course the "Right People" know, are these the same who know who killed JFK and brought down the twin towers

Would be interested in a PM as well please?
Karen has a beautiful voice and its such a pity she died so young. I do agree that the brother is definitely holding something back, whatever it is maybe the truth will come out soon?

Brought about a lot of work for yourself mysterious one
Just had a quick google, I dont know if this was the mysterious rumour bellagio was referring to, but some sources seem to think it was an over-the counter drug that caused her death.

Other than that you will have to seek out the right people in LA and ask them...(whoever they are)
Her misuse of ipecac was noted in Ray Coleman's book on the band (it's a very good one), and as with the anorexia, it didn't help, as it weakened further a system already in poor shape. But no, not what I was alluding to.
In my view there has never been, nor could there ever be again, a voice with such purity, tone, musicality, warmth and expression such as Karen's. Jo O'Meara and, more recently, Rumer, echo some of Karen's vocal characteristics, but there's still nothing to touch the one-of-a-kind that was Karen. I recorded the two BBC concerts and documentary that were on BBC4 a couple of years ago, and I also recorded last week's broadcasts too. I wish the Beeb would show the various US TV Carpenters Specials from the 1970's and 1980's that have never been shown here.
Every up-and-coming singer should study the legacy of Karen's recordings to see how singing SHOULD be done.
I think i would prefer to stick needles in my eyes than listen to the The Carpenters.
Feel sorry for her though, really unhappy person.
Open your ears , it has a stigma attatched, but the arrangement is superb, as is Karens voice, always perfect, always faultless.
She had the most wonderful range, if you could only look past the MOR tag

I agree with you, I do not doubt at all she had a good voice, but Beyonce or Mariah Carey also have good voices and for me their songs are something that must be played at the gates of hell.
The Carpenters music is simply excruciatingly corny.

Hehe, nothing can be as simple as it seems, I blame Hollywood for giving the public wild ideas.
