Never Sleep Again - The Elm Street Legacy
Finally got through this today.
An amazing 4 hour documentary looking at the whole series from conception to the 2003 Freddy vs Jason. Each film gets a good sized chunk of time devoted to it looking at script Ida's, casting, production, reception etc.
Even though several of the Elm Street films are poor it's still very interesting to hear the background to them especially with New Line Studios being, at the time, a very new and independent company.
If you're a fan of Elm Street or horror films in general you'll definitely get something out of watching this.
There's been a glut of horror documentaries over the last five or six years, some good some just ok:
His Name Was Jason
The Psycho Legacy
Going To Pieces
The Curse Of The Omen
Nightmares In Red, White and Blue
Halloween, 25 Years of Terror
The Shark Is Still Working
Still Screaming
They are currently making another Friday the 13th documentary called Crystal Lake Memories, based on the brilliant book of the same name.

i didn't realise there other nightmare cast members from the sequels at the funeral scene in wes craven new nightmare
and will never for get that nurse in no 3
That's funny you mention about the funeral scene as I never realised that too.
@LouKelly - hope you enjoy it. If you can't watch it in one go then the segments make it easy to stop and restart later.
Yes, I'll watch it in a few segments. I've seen there is a sequel as well, "Never Sleep Again 2" (stranglely ) but I think it focuses more on Nancy and hasn't got good reviews.
Yeah, I'll probably watch it at some point but I'm not in a rush.
I enjoyed all the stories about on set tensions and the various script rewrites. Also, I like that the majority of the sequels were pretty much made up as they were filming because the timescale was so tight and they didn't even have a finished screenplay.
I also looooooooved to hear them talk about the proposed ending for Freddy Vs Jason, where Pinhead's chains come out and drag them both to hell. That would have been amazing, but alas was not to be.
It's a documentary that I know I'll revisit multiple times over the years. They did such a good job of it.
I'm glad to have helped inspire you to buy it and enjoy it - that was the idea
Yes, Tuesday Knight did look very odd. What about the girl from Freddy's Dead who have the bloody face and girl resting her head on her lap - that was odd.
I'm only up to ANOES 3 as I'm watching it in segments.
And I find it very hard to believe that every single person involved in that film failed to see the glaringly obvious homoerotic undertones. It's really just a diabolical movie.
There is a two hour documentary about Jaws, another good one. And about Silence Of The Lambs. Excellent stuff.
Didn't he turn up with a friend who was auditioning and they chose Johnny who wasn't even going up for the part? Or maybe I'm thinking of another actor who started that way?!
I'm pretty sure it was Johnny.
I've seen this and like it very much
Wish it was an extra as part of the recent Bluray release of the movies out last year.
Want to see The Friday 13th one and the Halloween one
Thanks, I was doubting myself there!
is that available on a dvd as an extra ?
if its this one http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Shark_Is_Still_Working then it is on the Blu Ray edition
