I've decided it's time for a change, I've been with a Android Smartphone since the first Samsung Galaxy S back in 2010, and I've had every Galaxy S since then.
Most of my pals think I've lost the plot, selling the S4 for the iphone 5s, but i have a few reason why i'm changing over
First & foremost resale value, since the S3 the Galaxy S range has dwindled in resale value, the S2 when i sold it still had a high resale value the S3 didn't & same goes with the S4 now the price is dropping every week, and when the Snapgragon 800 version is released price will plummet even more.
The iPhone on the otherhand holds it value well even after 2 years it still has a good resale value.
Updates is another problem with most Android handset's apart from the Nexus range, they just seem to take forever to release an update, and simfree users suffer even more because they have to wait until the carriers have released it first, which is usually weeks or months after it was first released, Apple release updates to all handsets regardless if they are simfree or not.
And now for the biggest reason I've decided to get an iphone, Samsung recently released an update that basically stops you from rooting or installing any custom roms it called Knox and it basically lock down your phone to some extent, if you root it renders your warranty void, and there is no way to change this as it rumored Samsung is using somekind of efuse that impossible to get around, this has pissed me and a few other people off aswell, Samsung seem to be really clamping down on rooting ect.
So now i think it time to give the Iphone 5s a try as I've never had one before and i quite liked iOS 7, I still have an Android device in the form of the new Nexus 7, so i will have best of both worlds.
So has anybody else moved from an Android smartphone to an iphone and have you been happy with the change?.

You biggest reason for moving (KNOX) doesn't really make sense, as the iPhone will not let you root or install custom roms either.
I do agree about updates, the situation is a mess and it seems crazy that if you own the flagship device from Samsung, you have to wait (usually several months) for updates.
I do operate an android phone and iOS tablet, and I would have no problem switching between either.
I could have hung on till the Nexus 5 was released but going off last year fiasco with the Nexus 4 you be lucky to get your hands one before Christmas & the phones from HTC, Sony, LG ect don't really appeal to me, always been a Samsung user.
I think I'm making the right choice moving over to the iphone this time around, had a mess about with the Iphone 5 with iOS 7 , and really liked the new setup plus the smaller 4" screen isn't a problem for me neither as i don't game or watch movies on my smartphones, all that done on the Nexus 7.
Some people say but iTunes is crap, well these days your iphone doesn't go anywhere near a PC, it updates software on the phone, and backing up can be done via iCloud.
iOS7 is one item that may actually persuade me to switch to an iPhone. I love this update on my iPad. Although I too don't play games or watch movies on a phone the smaller screen size is a real concern though. I know it's only .5 of an inch but I do find 4.5" to be the perfect screen size.
I expect there will be a larger screen iphone within the next 6-12 months.
I current have a 3.8 inch screen and I'm very happy with that size phone.
It's 4.7" to be precise, and that makes a world of difference compared to the 4" on the 5s. Also 1080p full HD.
They should have had a bigger screen back then. I may have been tempted back to Apple if they had increased screen size to 4.5-5.0" but I think it's too late. I'm so used to being able to do practically anything I want on Android it would feel far to restrictive going back to Apple now even with a bigger screen.
Having always being Nokia I tried a galaxy S2 as Nokia had just lost its way with software. I never want a Samsung phone ever again. Awful hardware. Biggest thing I noticed is how dire voice quality is on them. Then I got annoyed with apps crashing lots, phone getting red hot , battery suddenly plummeting . So when contract had been served I though i would try an iPhone for the first time with the iPhone 5. What a difference , better hardware , less crashing , just the whole user experience is a better one. Might not be able to tweak as much but that does not really matter , I just need a dependable smartphone. Thought it might have been a 1 off but my mates S2 is doing same now and he wants rid of it , had enough of android crashing .
Less crashing on the iphone 5? dont think any of my iphones have crashed since ive been using them for the last 4 years
I had a few crashes on my iphone 4S when i had it. All phones do. In fact, for a time, apps on iphones were known to crash more than their Android counterparts. No idea if this is still the case. I had a crash on my Nexus 4 the other day. It's not unusual. You will have the die hard apple fans who refuse to admit their phone has crashed however!!
I switched from Android to the iphone 4S and disliked it. Just felt a pain to do anything. Little things like turning on wifi or bluetooth was a pain in the arse. Many button presses just to do it. It wasn't because i wasn't used to iOS since we had ipads. I moved back to Android and until apple radically change iOS, let me customise it and not have my phone look the same as everyone elses iphone and also make bigger screen phones, they won't see me as a customer!
Yeah ive had app crashes, even on my newish iphone 5 but thats just an app, and because they havent updated all apps for IOS7 yet. However the actual phone has never had to be restarted because of freezing etc, thats what i meant by crashing, where you cant do anything until the phone has been rebooted.
I mentioned the other day on another thread that my iPhone 5 crashed and rebooted. This was using iOS 7.0. I was surprised because it it's the first time it has ever crashed in the 10 months that I've had it.
My iPad 3 has crashed three times since June 2012.
It does if that was the reason why you were saying with Samsung, and that reason is now lost, so you may as well go to IOS.
Good point. I had assumed it was something they wanted to do.
If you want iOS then there's really not much choice and the iPhone hardware is decent enough, if overly expensive.
But since the release of Android 4.0 it's been so far ahead of iOS that you may get frustrated with how limited iOS is compared to Android.
As you have a Nexus 7 you know what stock Android is like. Now imagine that on a phone with similar specs to the iPhone 5s but at half the price. If i were you i'd definitely wait until the Nexus 5 is released. Just because the Nexus 4 had supply issues doesn't mean the same thing will happen with the Nexus 5.
Will it be pre-installed on future phones?
Ah right.
Well i did have that with my iphone 4S once or twice. In fact, i've had it with most phones.
One would assume so yes.
Samsung needed to do this if they wanted Governments/Companies to use them as corporate phones.
I'm surprised it was rolled out to consumers as people who like to tinker with their phones will avoid Samsung in the future, maybe they've shot themselves in the foot?
Saying that i know a few people with the S3/S4 and they have no interest in rooting them.
A larger screen would make for good headlines for the launch of the iPhone 6 next year although there'll probably be rumours and leaks beforehand and those who wanted the smaller screen could opt for the upgraded 5C announced at the same time (but will they correct the omission of a black plastic case next time?).
Another thing I can see coming soon and i wouldn't be surprised at all if this happens is if you buy a simfree handset, soon as your put your sim into it it locks to that carrier, and the way Knox works there will be no easy way to unlock it again.
This will be mainly thanks to the carriers that put pressure on Samsung & other manufacture's to some degree due to their greed & wanting people to be tied into expensive 2 year contracts, they already getting their own way when it comes to buying simfree smartphones, as it's impossible for a couple of weeks after launch to get your hands on one these days, and updates that once use to come to simfree users first, now have to wait until most of the carriers have released the update before simfree users get it, as i mentioned before at least with Apple everybody get the updates at the same time.
Next year I can see the S5 being really locked down, to the point you won't be able to do anything on it, if that the case then it's either go with HTC which have always been difficult to root ect, or Sony or LG and there no saying these will not follow the same path to at some point neither.
