Love the discworld novels.
But its entirely possible that they are unfilmable.
Hogfather was one of my favourite in the series.
The adaptation.... yeah, no that great.
And David Jason as Rincewind??
Bit on the old side there Dave...
I rather liked Sky's Hogfather, but still think casting DJ as ANOTHER character in the discworld is a duff idea. Plus, it's pretty shonky casting in and of itself.
I don't think Rincewind's age has ever been mentioned but his appearances in the novels would seem to suggest late thiries/early forties - and as one of his main traits is his highly evolved running skills Jason is going to have to do some serious training.
Unless the whole book and character is going to be bent around the star quality of David Jason, like in those illustrations of the effects of large objects on gravity which involve a bowling ball and a rubber sheet.

Mr Sideney in Hogfather was how I always imagined Rincewind to look.
Eric Idle is the *only* Rincewind for me. I always read Rincewind with his voice... it'll be strange seeing anyone else in the role. David Jason just seems wrong for the part. Who knows, maybe they'll pull it off.
Agree on Masi Oka for Twoflower! He's a pretty "big name US actor" these days. Maybe Jackie Chan.
Personally, I don't think that The Colour of Magic and/or The Light Fantastic are good choices to receive the Mini Series treatment. A lot of people struggled to get Hogfather, so they will really struggle with The Colour of Magic. The characters are a bit 2 dimensional, one is permanently scared stiff, the other one sees everything through rose tinted glasses. There's not much else to the story.
I think that they would be better off using one of the later books, Guards! Guards! perhaps. There are plenty of characters that you can empathise with, plus the story is almost all in Ankh-Morpork so they could use some of the same sets / locations etc.

They can't use David Jason he is already Albert it would be too confusing and he is far too old I think Makenzie Crook would be a good Rincewind.
And I would love to see them do Wyrd Sisters.
Ive only recently seen hogfather for the first time. and as a discworld fan for 10 years now - i was disappointed. i kind of wished they havent bothered.
i was pleased with the fact that the Discworld is being looked upon in a different light and getting recognised, but what was produced was to not very good.

the casting of Nobby Nobbs was awful!!!!!!!
They should Maybe just do the books as CGI films they will be able to get the characters much better and be able to recreate the Discworld better too.

I agree, if they are going to do The Colour of Magic then Makenzie Crook would make a great Rincewind.
While I'd like to see Wyrd Sisters done, it has already had a screen outing in the form of the Cosgrove Hall animation that Channel 4 showed a few years ago. I think it would be nice for one of the other books to have a chance.

Apparently Sky One are doing a version of Terry Pratchett's first Discworld book with David Jason as the cowardly wizard Rincewind.... not a good idea
so david jason will be playing del boy once again whoope do, agree not a good idea giving this one trick pony another chance to fcuk up in another discworld role
David Jasons far too old and dare I say it, stout, for Rincewind, who has always appeared as a 20/30 something scrawny wizard who's best skill is running....

he's far to old far Rincewind!!!!!! maybe during his "open all hours" days!
nononononononononono

How about Masi Oka from Heroes as Twoflower?

I think Jackie Chan would be too old to play Twoflower in CoM. He would have been okay to play him in Interesting Times though

Either Guards, Guards or Wyrd Sisters

Now he is my idea of Rincewind......
Maybe that's because Eric Idle provided the voice of Rincewind in the PC games ...
I know, but I thought it would help to show a picture
