Channel 5 close to relaunching Pop Idol?

I saw an advert earlier today about American Idol premiering on one of Channel 5's digital channels on the 17th January.
Do you think that the move of American Idol could be a pre-curser to Pop Idol being relaunched on the channel in the next year or two? Perhaps as part of the deal to show AI?
Or is it simply that American Idol's deal with ITV was up and now they have the guarantee of X Factor USA for at least another year they let it go and Channel 5 managed to pick it up cheaper?

As much as I love AI ( I watch it online before its on ITV less Ads) it was not doing well on ITV and therrfore I think ITV just let it go and its nothing to do with a come back of pop Idol.
It would be interesting to see a re-branded Pop Idol - British Pop Idol - but not sure it could happen.
I'd say it can only happen if The X Factor gets canned.
Why so? We have lots of these shows..and even more dancing ones. Another one wouldn't hurt.
Brit Idol? Or would that infringe? I'd rather they just called it Pop Idol again, American Idol isn't popular enough over here to justify renaming it to make it look our version of that rather than that being the American version of ours. If they wanted to make the connection to that more obvious they could just show clips of it in the trailer, followed by a clip of Will Young on Pop Idol and have the voice over (Marcus Bentley?) say something like "The show that started it all.." or "After 10 years, the original Idol returns..". Either way they should do it, I think with a famous judge or two (Kylie Mynogue, Will Young, and Mel B?), the right promo (the above ad on ITV like CBB's during DOI, etc), a Mr Nasty (would Nigel Lythgoe do it?) and ITV2 style daily repeats in uncompetitive slots to build the audience it could work. Wouldn't get X Factor or Strictly ratings but might manage CBB ratings with a CBB launch sized launch and finale.
1D's success notwithstanding, boy & girl bands aren't as big as they were back then, so I can't see this format being resurrected, and legally, "Pop Idol" was withdrawn from the UK as part of the Cowell/Fuller X-Factor case, so there's no way it'll be back while XF is still on-air...
But that kind of show needs X Factor or Strictly ratings otherwise nobody is going to care about the winner or the music they release and the show will lose all credibility. Even X Factor is having a hard time in that respect so what would happen with a show that struggles to get a tenth of its ratings?
Also, I highly doubt Channel 5 could afford to get the names you listed on board.
