Benedict Cumberbatch, without a shadow of a doubt! :D

In failing that, they could always use him for the next incarnation of the Master, after John Simm, or as Captain Jack Harkness. They could say that Jack can suddenly regenerate and Benedict could play him, then. Just a thought though. I can just picture Benedict in Jack's clothes. The big coat, pale blue shirt, white t-shirt under that, braces and so on.

As for the 12th Doctor, I would absolutely love it if they cast Benedict in the role after Matt goes. In my eyes, he's as perfect as he could be for the role. He would be cast after Matt leaves, if I was executive producer and head showrunner on Doctor Who.

None of the above, with all due respect to them :)

But I like it to be someone who isn't being touted as being in the role, generally...it's always good if it can be someone a bit unexpected and I think it's also better if they have a lower profile when they come in to the role.

Colin Morgan? Yeah, I can see that.

Rupert Grint from the Harry Potter Movies would be good too. The Doctor would be ginger at last!:D

I can just hear Matt Smith's Dr say "I'm still not ginger!" So funny!

Someone a little shorter as it would be quite funny for the Doctor to pass remark on such a difference.

The Doctor-"Has the shelf grown or have I got smaller?"

Why not suggest Warwick Davis and have done with it.

These are just people who I think could do it well, I'm not saying they'd be great.

    Damien Molony
    Richard Armitage
Benny but he could be a great master like tiggerpooh said.
Possibly Andrew Lee Pots or Iwan Rheon but they're probably my least favourite for the role.
Martin Freeman. I honestly can't see him doing it and I don't think he's a popular choice, it's just because I think he's brilliant.
People often suggest Rupert Grint and Daniel Radcliffe but I'm not so sure. However the more I see of Dan outside of Harry Potter, the more I think he could play the doctor.

About a week ago I had a dream that Sean Bean became the 12th Doctor.

I cannot believe it! I've had the thought of Benedict being the 12th Doctor for a while now. About 12 months, anyway. I'd already commented that I wanted Benedict to be cast as the 12th Doctor, before I noticed a poll was up. so it was a shock to me that everyone had sected him.

Hasn't everyone heard already that Karl Pilkington is lined up to play the new Doctor, when Ricky Gervais takes over as show runner in 2015?

BEfore that though it is going to turn out that Richard E Grant is a fob-watched 12th doctor. It's going to be really exciting:D

    Harry - No!
    Sue - maybe
Lenny - no (been in a spoof sketch of DW in the 80s anyway)
David - been the Dr anyway, so no
    Justin - what? No!
    Paddy - maybe
    Paul - definately not!
    Emma - no

There's your answer. I think maybe you were being sarcastic when suggesting Paul Daniels, Harry Syles and Justin Bieber.

Oh per-lease, not the latest pretty boy favourites being touted as Doctors. :(

When will people realise that they just don't cast someone already well known as another television character. The nearest to that was Peter Davison but at least Tristran Farnon was a secondary character.

I want an older actor, who has shown bundles of versatility and quirkiness in his career without ever getting typecast, and has even had a number one hit without anybody knowing his name to boot..!

    I give you...Michael Fenton Stevens.

And a secondary back-up of Robert Llewellyn.

I was being sarcastic when sugesting Warwick Davis, as I was trying to think who was short that was acting on tv. You cannot get any shorter than Warwick in my opinion.

Although Colin Morgan and Benedict Cumberbatch areboth great actors, and they'd be able to bring something new to the character, I think they're both too big and iconic now; it would look too much like Sherlock or Merlin running around instead of The Doctor.

If you want short but not too short there's Martin Freeman :)

And yeah, I think Ben and Colin are a bit too iconic now. If Benedict was to take the role I think they'd have to make him look a lot different to how he does in Sherlock. Maybe have him be ginger because I've seen lots of photos of him with red hair.

I thought of Martin earlier, but didn't think he'd be right for the role.

Benedict Cumberbatch is too big now and the BBC wouldn't afford him, ( ok for Sherlock but not for 13 part series)

    Colin however isnt so big,

I recall Peter Davison taking over and everyone said he is Tristan from All Creatures great and small, in fact he also went back to do it.

Colin is currently out of work as Merlin ended.

Another actor that I really like is Robert Carlysle. He was great in Flood, Full Monty and Hamish Macbeth. I thought of him, when DT announced he was leaving back in 2009. I could just picture RC in clothes, simillar to Christopher Eccleston's Dr's clothes back in 2005. Leather jacket, black jeans, black boots and black sweatshirt.

I think he would do well as the Doctor, dressed like that.

My top 3 favourite actors for the role of the 12th Doctor, would be:

    1. Bennedict Cumberbatch
    2. Robert Carlysle
    3. Rupert Grint

    What do you think?
