27 replies and one, just one, mentions Blackadder.

No wonder we have a Great British Menu cast that appears to think that anything remotely referencing a childhood menu or a benevolently smiling octogenarian is hilariously amusing.

"On the Buses" is timeless comedy and yet Blackadder passes memory by?

    Oh bollocks. We're all dooooooooomed!

I'm mentioning Blackadder Tabithakitten, I love it.

I have more than 5 favourites really, so it's hard to select, but here are mine in no particular order.

Yes Minister (the original of course, The new one is a disgrace!)
    Blackadder
    Porridge
    Red Dwarf
    Rising Damp

Blackadder was brilliant....apart from the first series, which was poo. But was it really funnier than Fawlty Towers, Father Ted, Only Fools, Frazier, Curb,One foot in the grave, The Office, Porridge, Steptoe and Son......etc?

    1. Friends
    2. Two And A Half Men (Charlie Sheen days)
    3. South Park
    4. Family Guy
    5. Big Bang Theory

Then again, does Celebrity Juice count as a comedy? If so that goes as number one :)

Edit: I've forgotten Vicar Of Dibley, that was great as well. As was the inbetweeners .. Ok new list:

    1. Celebrity Juice (if it counts)
    2. Friends
    3. The Inbetweeners
    4. The Big Bang Theory
    5. Vicar of Dibley.

It moves around depending on my mood :p

I love blackadder it would be in my top ten but it edged out of the top 5 as I don't like the first series that much.

Talking about sitcoms not ageing well I used to love in the late 70s Citizen Smith. I saw a repeat recently and found it cringingly unfunny. Funny how comedy tastes change.

BTW Dads Army is shockingly under mentioned in this thread but for me it is the most timeless comedy series of all.

Yes absolutely. Only one person before you had mentioned Dads Army and even he saddled it with the comedy Love Thy Neighbour! :(

Also interesting that Men Behaving Badly just a few years ago was No 1 in a BBC telly poll of greatest sitcoms but now no one mentions it. Rightly so mind.

Got to agree. Don't know how I could have forgotten it. About six months ago I watched every ep on you tube with my son who's in his 20's, and who had never seen it before. He loved it.

It's interesting that "On The Buses", "Open All Hours" and "The Vicar Of Dibley" have been mentioned, three British sitcoms that would have no trouble finding there way into my Top Five Least Favourite comedy programmes of all time.
