I am just curious, I messed around with 8.1 for about a month now and today went back to 7 Pro and its like a breath of fresh air, I never got onto W8.1, it might be different on a touch screen device but for me on my non touch screen HP laptop its W7 all the way.

I prefer w8 in desktop mode with a 3rd party add on.
Unimpressed with the poll choices so can't vote.
It makes Windows 8 much more useable, but I can't leave Windows 7 - not yet anyway
Other than that I really prefer my Mac.
I find it a joy to use after using Macs for 7 years
Even on a touch device, there are times I want to throw the PC at the wall due to frustrations with the Windows 8.1 UI.
Why do you prefer Windows 8.1 to OSX?
Main reasons are I do not like Auto Save/Versions and also the removal of the Save As option
OS X apps to me are moving too much towards the iOS versions
In windows desktop, things work as I expect them to
I am on Lion so not sure if these can be turned off in later versions, but I can't upgrade past Lion so stuck with it
What other choices would you need/want?
Course you do!
I'm still using Snow Leopard and Lion on my Macs so I'm not sure about those features either. I find that although OSX programs are becoming more like the iOS ones, the OS is still very much a desktop one in terms of interface, unlike Windows 8 which tries to be both a tablet and desktop OS at the same time. It just doesn't work. Are you running Windows 8 on your Mac?
Well on PCs, the bolted-on Metro interface in place of the classic start menu is the main issue most people who don't like Windows 8 seem to have, not Windows 8 itself. Windows tablets are a different issue too.
You can't just say "do you like/prefer Windows 8" in a poll and expect to get meaningful results.
So would better questions be 'do you like the new features that MS has put into windows 8?' and 'would you like windows 8 if it behaved more like windows 7?'
I think the OSx software starting to look like IOS is one of the things that my Mac owning friend is not liking.
MS made a few mistakes with windows 8, some they sorted with 8.1, but not all. 8.1 have come towards the desktop again, but only because you can boot directly to desktop, they still need a decent launcher without going back to the metro. Be that a start menu, dock or any other sort of launcher.
I have seen 8.1 running on three machines now and there are two main problems for me.
(1) too much integration of the MS account, even to the point that you can't use sky drive now on a local account.
(2) all three machines seems to slow down once 8.1 is installed.
2) Most people find that after a little use and a couple of reboots that W8.1 runs as fast as 8.0
You seem to form lasting opinions on the basis of very few facts.
Oh, and can we keep the Mac stuff out of this thread please?
Difference is Windows 8 desktop programs work as they always have done, OS X desktop ones are turning into iOS ones
Heres one for you
Go into Lion and open a photo in Preview
Crop that Photo (as though you want to print out only part of it)
Now close Preview
Why has it saved my photo as the cropped version, I didn't tell it to save, it didn't ask me to save it
Now I would have to go into Versions and look at the last one and say restore to get the original back
