are you big enough to compliment your club's main rivals?
Football is a tribal business by its very nature, but when things happen like the Muamba incident recently it can serve as a reminder that 22 men kicking a bag of air about isn't all that important.
Events like that bring us together, and people realise that despite rivalries, football supporters are essentially all in love with the beautiful game.
Are you mature enough to put petty rivalries aside just for a brief moment to pay compliments, without sly comments and oneupsmanship, to your supposedly deadly rivals?
It may be tough, but here goes...
LIVERPOOL
As much as some of Kenny Dalglish's signings have obviously not worked out, you can't turn your nose up at trophies. If they end the year with two then their season has without doubt been a success. As much as we like to mock his arrivals, when weighed up in terms of net spend, like Rafa, it really isn't that bad, and two pots would justify the outlay, without question.
CITY
This is the first time in my lifetime, probably any of our lifetimes, that City have got players as good or even better than us. I grew up when they had Michel Vonk, Andy Dibble and Mike Sheron, so i've not been used to casting envious glances in their direction, but now they have a genuinely brilliant squad. Kompany is the best player in his position in the country, arguably Europe. Hart is brilliant, Yaya Toure's EXACTLY what we need at United, Silva's sublime (even with his brief dip), and Aguero's superb. Even players like Clichy (Clichy!), Lescott, Richards - all vastly improved.
LEEDS
Still averaging 23,000 despite their crook of a chairman charging £40+ a ticket for unremarkable Championship football. Credit to them for that. I doubt many supposedly big Premier League teams would get so many bums on seat if middling around the second tier.

I despise Liverpool with a passion ( my mum tried to convert me when i was young) but yes there doing what Arsenal did in 93 with 2 cup finals and i gave Arsenal credit and now i have to give that same credit to LFC.
Liverpool have a big history and i respect that. The only day i consider myself a liverpool supporter is April 15th, as should every football fan in the world.
Its the right thing to do.
How can i expect to be taken seriously in the Liverpool thread if I'm calling them "scum" in another?
We are all football fans at the end of the day and should, on some level, have a common bond.
100% agreed.
Good man.
Real Madrid have some of the most amazing players in the World !
Im a United fan, and I genuinely want Chelsea to beat Barcelona in Champions League Semi Final.
May get slaughtered for admitting that - but hey ho.
The ones who annoy me, who I think have NO respect for the game are the idiots using Scum, Loserfool, Chiteh etc and thinking they look clever. They don't, they just look stupid and idiotic. As an LFC fan I know what it's like to feel pain on losing, joy on winning, and hurt on having your team derided cruelly. Don't wish that on anyone else tbh.
Chelsea,
just hate everything about that club, Chairman past and present , players fans, Gloryhunters in fact just about everything they stand for the fact they have spent 800 million plus and won 3 titles in 8 years, isnt really a lot to brag about Man u have won double that and spent a fractioin of that and won the Champions league.as well
true Chelsea have won few cuops as well, but the big one has so far been a bridge too far and its very unlikely to change unless messi gets injured tonight
He's more likely to get Injured in the Madrid match tbh .
I dread playing them for that very reason.
No chance.
My grandad was a mad City fan as are half of my relatives. My mum's family grew up in Bradford, right next to City's ground.
However, they have spent obscene amounts of cash to be where they are. They reflect all that is bad about football.
They are hypocrites. When their season looked wobbly they called back the player, the manager said would never play for City again.
Arsenal
Play the right kind of football. Spend within their means(although Wenger does need to show less prudence if they want to start winning trophies again) and will always have the kind of class that teams like City and Chelsea can only dream of.
Chelsea
A team in transition. Get rid of Terry, Lampard and Cole and they will go up 100% in my estimation.Like City another team that have spent silly money but I don't quite put them in the same category as City.
They need to stop the managerial merry go round, dispense with the ego's, bring through more home grown players and I'll give them more credit.
Liverpool
Will command a respect because of their history, association with tragedy like Manchester United have and past success.
However they are in danger of undoing some of their hard work with their support for Suarez and having a manager who has never had much love recently for Mr PR.
As soon as I realise that I know more about some other fan's club than he knows himself, I lose interest in anything he has to say.
Generally speaking, I've always enjoyed talking to genuine football fans, even those from our closest rivals. We might exchange some less than savoury comments during the game, but in the pub afterwards it's usually fairly civilised.
We all have our team, but if you can't credit other clubs when they do something well it's a bit of a shame.
I try to always credit Utd when they have won the PL title (I seem to have had an annoying amount of practice over the years....) and I would hope when the day comes that we can finally get back to winning league titles some of the Utd fans would be able to do the same. Also while I really am not a fan of the man Fergies achievements as a manager are simply incredible and when history looks back at the great managers the game has had his name will rightly be right up in the list - some of his achievements may never be bettered.
I actually find Utd and Liverpool probably have more in common than a lot of us like to admit!
That said I reserve the right to laugh to myself when they lose!
Like that you mean
Kick them when they're down you bad man.:D
What he said.
With regards to one of our recent failed managers, very well done to Alan Pardew this season. Actually most of the damage was done in the 2006-2007 season before he arrived and at one point it looked like he might rescue us, but it's all gone downhill since then. He's doing an incredible job and Newcastle and it would be quite cool if they can take advantage of Arsenal and Chelsea playing each other and of Tottenham's bad form and get into the champions league.
Our other failed manager though, Phil Parkinson, took over at Bradford very early in the season so had time to turn things around but they're languishing near the bottom of League 2, not quite low enough to go down but bad enough.
We suffered 2 relegations since the Premiership so know what it's like, haven't gone through 3 though like Bradford who may make it 4 next season if Parky remains there.
