I'm gutted they seem to have dumped it, I've never really seen it before but was a big Frasier fan so I was looking forward to seeing what happened to their marriage.
Can't believe they have stopped showing it at this point of the show. Thankfully I signed up for Netflix last week with the unblock Us as all 11 seasons are on the USA version so I will catch up with them on there.
That is seriously bad news, I could forgive them for having a break until autumn even but if that's it I am not happy at all.
CBS were showing repeats in tandem with ITV4 until a few weeks ago but I see they have started at Series 1 again, so not even hopeful of them ever showing the rest.
If ITV have dropped it for good then that's terrible! They have a habit of doing that kind of thing though. It's one of the reasons that in January my bf bought the complete box set, so we wouldn't have to cram it all in on itv and could watch at my own pace.
Keep an eye on zavvi - http://www.zavvi.com/dvd/cheers-the-complete-series/10628175.html it's £55 quid at the mo, but was £38 when i got it. So check there and amazon and stuff and you may get it under 40 if you're willing to check every few days for months!
Absoluetly pathetic if they have stopped showing them for good with only a few seasons to go. Bloody ITV ! Time to download.
I realised tonight Cheers had disappeared off my Sky planner. I'm so tired of this happening. It's happened with so many shows I really liked and not just on ITV.
It's becoming more difficult to watch vintage US shows on british tv, apart from the ones which have been on a loop forever. I've been watching The Mary Tyler Moore Show on dvd recently. I wish there was a channel completely dedicated to showing vintage american sitcoms.:(
A few years ago ITV showed a series called I think Heist with Dougray Scott about - no shock - a bank heist!! It was about 16 episodes then it stopped before the end - turns out it was canned in the US and final 4 were never even filmed!!
WTF would you even show a series that stops part way through??? Especially as it was obviously leading up to the heist and that was the whole point.
Thank you so much for this link, I will now continue watching a couple of episodes each day.
If you are a bloke I want to shake your hand and buy you a pint, if you are a gal I would give you a big kiss and buy you a cocktail of you choice.
I am one happy chappie.
I agree. I much preferred the Diane and Coach years - Sam was a much richer, deeper and nicer character then. I hated the all out sleazy lothario he has become in season 8. I always thought of Carla, Cliff and Norm as supporting characters and could take or leave them, especially Carla, who was mostly just toxic and unlikeable imo. Fraser when with Diane or on his own I couldn't stand but the partnership of Fraser and Lilith was terrific. Rebecca never really grew on me but she was very funny to watch when in meltdown.
Love this thread. Just thought I'd set all your minds at rest that Cheers will be returning to ITV4 after the break for sport, and continuing on season 8.

Thank you for your email regarding the scheduling of ‘Cheers’ on ITV4.
Unfortunately we do not have this information at this time. We only hold a 10 day advance schedule and this series is not due to resume within this time scale.

Thanks for doing this, folks. I guess we just have to keep our fingers crossed. I think it's a disgrace that ITV are treating their viewers so shabbily over this - a proper response should not be difficult to send.
Also, they will be completely shooting themselves in the foot if they stop showing Cheers. Look at the popularity this 30 year old show has - I can think of few other 80s American sitcoms (possibly just The Golden Girls) that would generate a consistently active thread when being rerun.

I am going to 'keep in touch' with our friends at ITV I am not that happy with their answer about only knowing what's on 10 days in advance. I can find out what's on ITV4 14 days in advance on numerous internet sites.Even my Freeview box will tell me if I switch it to 14 days. That sounded like a cop out answer to me.
If they have abandoned it, I will certainly think twice about watching any other retro shows ITV4 decide to screen. No guarantee they will show all of it.
This was my first time watching Cheers, and I was loving it so much. Such a shame.
It's definitely coming back. I spoke to someone in the know, and it will return after the sport. We'll have to be patient, but I'm sure it'll be worth the wait.
... and Jimmy, from what I've heard there's some other retro classics on the way!
Hi Folks - just done a search to see when & if Cheers would return and found this thread. I've seen Cheers end to end at least 4 times now and it only gets better. The HD has given it a totally different dimension. I still have old VHS tapes from when I used to tape during its original run on Channel 4 and they're like watching something from the 60's now. Its amazing what we use to put up with!
For those who've not seen it before Sam defiantly turns a corner over the next few years. During this series they're busy establishing several other characters and don't really know what do to with Sam. Ultimately he doesn't change but the script writers do put a bit more thought into it. That said the whole point of Sam now is he's an ageing single man who still thinks he's 25 and I think they've started to show he's not what he once was, much to his disappointment. The show where he dates a much younger woman who wants to exercise all the time and the show where he realises he wants the bar back because his life isn't going anywhere demonstrate its not all just Sam 'pulling'! I think Sam is the best TV comedy character I've ever watched. Ted Danson does so much more than just read his lines. In fact I think the secret to Cheers is there isn't one duff character at any point through any series hence you can watch it over and over and still laugh. I think my favourite episode is when Rebecca's sister comes to town and sends Sam into a frenzy - brilliant.

Hi mcbtosh Thanks for that, have you or your friend any idea on the date of its return? Is it around the end of May as someone else on this thread suggested?
I'm missing my daily fix of Cheers. Grr ITV4. Where has it gone? Sod the Pepsi Cricket fanfare already. I brought the Frasier boxset in order so I can watch it once I've seen all of Cheers.
Why don't you all watch it online? If we were allowed to post links I would, but I know of atleast one website who have the full series of Cheers to watch. For me, the quality is fine (I use my hdmi cable and watch on the tv) but some of you technically savvy (fussy?) people may rather wait until its back on telly again.
Dont like what Im reading ITV are replying with, have emailed them myself yesterday. Pathetic answer. Have stuck a message on the ITV4 Facebook page.
Anyone know where it finished on ITV4 Season/EPisode?

It's like you shone a torch inside my head! :D
No reply yet (apart from the standard 'you will get an answer within a few days' template reply)
I'll post their reply on this thread when it comes.
