Tudor Monastery Farm
Six episodes

Historian Ruth Goodman and archaeologists Peter Ginn and Tom Pinfold turn back the clock to run a farm at the Weald & Downland Open Air Museum in West Sussex as it would have been done in 1500 under the reign of Henry VII.

Peter and Tom move the sheep to fresh grass, build a pigsty with no nails and plough with a pair of cows, while Ruth makes tallow lights out of rushes and sheep fat, and performs the ritual of laying the table - an act full of Christian symbolism.

The team also celebrates Palm Sunday, one of the most important religious events of the year, with Peter dressing up to play the role of a prophet.

With this piece of news, you've just brightened up my morning. I love these shows - we've just finished watching the Edwardian and War time ones again. :)

    Looking forward to this. Thanks.
During the War series, one of the blokes got incredibly dishevelled looking as the series progressed, did anyone else notice this? Yet the other fellow was able to maintain himself better. Just an observation.

    The gang are back !

Well Ruth and Peter are.............but no Alex !

Obviously a few months on Time Team turned his head

    His replacement is Tom

This time round we're back in the year 1500. Henry VII is on the throne but out in the sticks our plucky farmers deal with ploughing, tending the animals and Ruth gets stuck into cooking, washing and scrubbing

She'll be as happy as a pig in shit..............:p

I wondered that too, Daughter Eve and her Dad have been on, Peter or Alex's Brother was on once, he's a cobbler.

I'll be downloading and re-watching properly at later date, bit distracted at the moment.
The clothes are a bit perfect this series.
I could get used to Tom as he's now the third leg of the team.

Th Weald and Downland Museum, where this is shot is a wonderful place with masses to see and many acres of great scenery. Odd to see it so empty, as normally if you go there as a visitor there are thousands of people wandering around.

An hour gone already? That was fascinating and the camerawork for the final meal scene made it look just like an painting of the era.

The museum's web site's a bit slow responding - I wonder if it's under unusually heavy load?:)

    Great pigs this time round

    Those little piglets were adorable............

but we all know what's coming in about episode 4............:eek:

I loved the attempt to place everyday life within the belief system. As a historian myself...........:o........that's the most difficult part of history, not explaining the events but trying to understand what people thought

Very surprised that it was Geraldine James doing the narration!

interesting, but everyone was just a little bit too... clean!!

Also, not sure about Ruth's assertation about the food situation with regards to the easter meal, given that Easter is a movable feast, with a range of something like 4 weeks that it can fall on.
