I am looking for something to stream audio output (mono would be fine) from my PC to a portable (battery powered) receiver. I can see several devices that require one to wear headphones that incorporate a receiver, but headphones will not suit my purpose as they would fall off while I am painting ceilings etc. So basically I'd like it to have a receiver which can be carried in my pocket and somewhere to plug in my choice of earphone.
I am not optimistic, but thought it might be worth a try

Any modern smartphone should be able to play streaming media from a pc via wifi. Google stream pc media to iphone or android etc.
If software needs a wifi route then 3 mifi dongle will do the trick. You would need a valid 3 sim, but it would not cost anything to use.

Not if you held 'em in place with a large elasticated shower cap, they wouldn't Save the power on your smartphone for other things!
I am sure this is not legal in uk but odds of getting csught
What troubles me though is, within 10 minutes a police car stopped outside my house - all at an angle as if they stopped in a hurry. After 5 mins I thought maybe they're picking up my signal so I pulled the dongle out. Then they left.
But with a 50nW device you are safe.
