Ps plus - still download when on notification screen on startup?

When booting the ps3, if stuff has been auto updated over night a message appears saying what has been done.

When the screen appears, does the ps3 still download stuff in the background or only when the xmb appears (and u sign in)?

I have no idea, but I would love to know the answer if you find out whether it does or not.

I know this doesn't answer your question but you can set the PS3 to shut down when the download is completed by just putting a tick in the box.
