I'm loyal so long as the service is good. You just have so many 'my mate' stories that you no longer have credibility, its gone, I take most of what you say with a pinch of salt and judging by other members posts I'm not the only one who thinks you make it up as you go.

I don't really give a crap to be honest, you got so many my sister, uncle, auntie stories, so no difference there.

I got a lot of mates, but I got a couple of friends. there is a difference. since most of them are on the net and I sort most of the problems out i tend to see a few things. Not so much over the last few months mind you as i stopped doing this sorting out everyone's problems, got my own life to lead.
I still do family and 2-3 peoples if they have a problem, but that is it.

I used to help my mates mate, my brothers friend, mate, auntie, but no more.
Other things it is just what people say.

do you really think I am going to go with a service with 12-18 contract that I have seen to fail and have more complaints than any other ISP? Orange is another one I would give a miss, because of the complaints, and also because i have seen orange problems. but i do know of someone who thinks they are the bees knees, certainly now they changed to EE and gone Fibre.

Loyalty is no good, it gets you know where, certainly with the larger companies as more and more are not bothering. sky for instance if you tell them you are going they give you a small offer and if you refuse they now say bye, bye. BT is the same, they don't fight to keep people like they used to.
What are you missing? Speed, rock solid connection etc not that you'll understand because you live in Noise world lol

But I got a rock solid connection, I got the speed I need to do what I want, sure if allpay said they was going to increase my speed for the same price I would take it, but I am not bothered. I would go back to 5 if I had to, it was more stable than my ADSL and slightly faster.

The other good thing about being with who I am with is I don't get bombarded with emails, phone calls or letters telling me that I could have this and that for just a few quid more, even if I don't want it.

Saying that it seems Sky don't bother their broadband only customers with stuff about sky TV. but i know Bt and Talk Talk does, two people at least been having phone calls, emails and letter saying that they could have Youview and more calls free, when it fact it is not really free is it?

Bt is worse than Talk Talk in that respect.

i get it from my mates who have gone onto fibre, why are you not on fibre, why are you staying with allpay? You could have this, you could have that. Why did you go with allpay when you knew FTTc was just around a couple of weeks away?

I tell them the same thing, because it suits me, I did not want to go back to BT DLM and their equipment and it gave me a more stable system than ADSL.

Anyway, i am happy with what I have got at the moment, when/if the day comes that I am not, I will let you know ok?

there are a few things going on. there has been a steady decline. this is natural as more people are consolidating their broadband around their TV service, so half that would have happened anyway. there is also a natural churn people come people go. this is not shown in the numbers. it is likely that this is continuing people are leaving as would be expected, but that new people are not signing up as it is well known that they will be moving to sky.

i think this is some way apart from people leaving 'in droves' - and for sky it's not a massive problem. sky are not interested in the ISP business, it makes no money, they are interested in selling people tv. and they will get half a million customers that they can try and up-sell to. which is the best way of them expanding their business.
o2/Telefonica have a big TV operation in Spain and could have started one in the UK, even join Youview?, but with so much TV provider competition in the UK and the TV service in Spain struggling.
    http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/spains-telefonica-loses-51000-pay-519424
Looks like with the good offer from Sky, they have decided to keep with the profitable mobile business and Youview may also part of the reason?
    http://www.thinkbroadband.com/news/5542-o2-continues-to-shed-broadband-customers.html
The other problem that has arrived is the launch of YouView which with the free box offers via TalkTalk and BT may further erode O2 customer numbers.

May do, depends what I feel like if i do go for FTTc at some point.

I told you ages ago I would not for FTTC as soon as i was able to, in fact if allpay did not offer this service i may have still been with ADSL24 and ADSL.

Hi there - interesting reading the comments about O2 or Sky. I am in the same position, I have been an 02 customer for years as my daughter works for O2 and they gave us a very good deal.. I was very disappointed to see the sale over to sky - IMO they are horrible to deal with. Anyway I called up 02 yesterday to see what my options were and they told me to call Sky. After waiting to get through I eventually got someone to tell me what they could offer and it was rubbish. The clincher though was. When you start asking about the service: are you aware that sky are setting up their customer support to move to Mumbai? Are you aware that Sky WILL use data management to cut you broadband speeds between 5pm and midnight?
So apart from the fact that its sky and they want to be able to send you marketing emails and sell your data all the time even if you opt out! Also The new Sky email service will not work if you have private browsing on- simply will not open it tells you to change your settings and that is simply so they can collect data to send you preferential sites based on your browsing history. anyway I am sure there are some good points but I simply cannot think of any, none at all!

Sky Broadband Unlimited, Sky Fibre Unlimited, and Sky Fibre Pro are truly unlimited, with no usage limits, no Fair Usage Policy (FUP), no Subscriber Traffic Management (STM), no port throttling, and no traffic shaping.

The only Sky broadband service that has any kind of traffic management is Sky Broadband Connect, which is simply because it is a re-sold BT Wholesale service that is made available for people not in Sky network areas (non-LLU areas, areas not unbundled by Sky).

I don't use Sky's email (or any ISP email), but given that it would require cookies for logging in I don't see it as surprising that it wouldn't work in private browsing / incognito mode.

jab64000, as been said above, Sky broadband is unlimited, truly unlimited., ok if you do something stupid like use 800Gb a month every month I expect they would say something, but if they would stop you is another thing.

As for moving customer service to Mumbai, most of the large ISPs already have customer service out sourced to other countries. i have contacted sky a couple of times on behalf of different people and they always been fine with me, getting stuff sorted pretty quick.

About marketing emails, again I know people who is using sky broadband only and get none of them, which surprised me, because I thought sky would be bombarding with adverts for their sky Tv.

Not sure about selling peoples details, but if they do then that is wrong and it should be opt in, not opt out.

Sky seems to be one of the better of the larger ISps, at least they get things done if thier service is not working as it should.

Read this Flagpole. I look forward to seeing the excuses you come up with :D

Two thirds of BE customers will leave because of Sky take over and one third have stated that Murdoch is the main reason.

The customer support for the TV is in India at certain times anyway and so do most other companies

No they dont unless you are on the Connect package. Their unlimited package is unlimited and traffic management free. If they cut the broadband speeds, then their catchup tv (which uses the broadband connection) would suffer....

Im currently with o2 and intend to see what price Sky will be before i make any decision. As for Murdoch - i basically dont care who owns part of the company.

Correction - it doesnt state two thirds of BE customers will leave. It says two thirds of THOSE WHO COMPLETED THE POLL will leave. The number that voted were 982. That means approximately 654 people said they would leave. Hardly 2/3 of BE customers....

It is a shame that once again people got less choice, it is what I said a few years back when Plusnet too over Metronet, give it time and we will be forced to use a selection of 3 or 4 ISPs as there be nothing else left.

It's self-fulfilling as well as the type of person who would even find such a poll......

Having said that more Be customers than O2 will leave as O2 was always for people who just wanted an inexpensive and reliable connection - just as Sky offer!

I would be surprised if the Be 'exodus" was more than ~20% - with O2 a LOT less!

How can you say that Sky is as reliable as O2 has been?

O2 was actually slightly faster than BE for me as was being cheaper and reliable as I have used both.

I am not a fan of Murdoch or BT so still not sure what to do yet but feedback from people who already have Sky or BT is pushing me towards BT or maybe Plusnet ?

PlusNet is owned by the BT Group but does operate independently though.

Just read this it looks like o2 routers might be affected when the change over starts? http://www.ispreview.co.uk/index.php/2013/05/oft-rubber-stamps-fixed-line-o2-uk-and-sky-broadband-merger.html

Because I went FROM Be to Sky!!!!

Be were fine while Sky have been fully as fast and reliable!

Why BT??? Few people seem to rate them!

Funny that. If so few rate them, they why are they the number one BB user provider in the UK? Unless your just throwing one out there, of course.

Because they are the automatic choice for many people? - go with the people who supply the phone!

Seriously I have often wondered that! They would never be my first choice!

It's already starting to become this way if you exclude the business/specialist ISPs from the lineup.

Could be worse though. I've read a lot of horror stories from people in the states that are basically stuck with a single ISP. The lack of competition means the prices are through the roof and quality of service is poor. Aside from expensive satellite broadband they basically have no choice but to put up with it.

I think four IPSs is a good number, it's all well and good having hundreds of small IPSs but ISPs need to be a good size to be able to invest in their infrastructures. I think the current set-up is quite healthy. And let's not forget that as well as the big four, there are also players on the fringes like Tesco (£2pm unlimited ADSL with £14.90pm landline) who help keep prices reasonable.
