I don't understand it, I listened to their music years ago and it never caught me... happened to hear it again today and it still didn't do anything for me. But is there actually any fans on here? 120 million albums worldwide with 100 of them being in the US. They also hold the biggest selling album in the US.

I like their music, then again, I like a lot of different types of music from Country through to prog rock
Well it's nice to hear that there is someone out there. I never heard from any fan.
They've got some good tunes.
im with you.... never understood the mass appeal, thought they were just 'safe' dreary aor.
Guess I have now though. Same applies for Dire Straits, I love the catchy guitar riffs from Mark Knopfler, but i've never met another fan.
Cooeee
no not bad, i dont dislike their material, nor do i like it its .... just... bland... abit like coldplay.
I'm guessing you won't like this then
I have some of their LPs but I'm not a diehard fan, I preferred Poco.
If your figures are correct and they have sold 100 million in the US as other artists have also. 20 million outside the US is good but nowhere near amazing. Again i think their sound and non US sales would perhaps be coming from rock friendly English speaking countries like UK,Australia,Canada etc not sure about South America or Asia.
The Eagles are very much like the Oasis argument in another thread absolutely loved and millions of albums sold in the homeland and less appeal/understanding of what makes them so beloved back home outside the UK (Oasis)/US (Eagles) boarders. The Eagles are the staple of Americana rock and that's why they have such a huge following Stateside.
The Last Resort is their best song imho... love Hotel California but always found their other albums hard work
Love over Gold by Dire Straits is a pretty decent album btw
There are lots of stories about the Eagles from people that worked for them and the fans and most are not very nice with the usual bullshit no eye contact no talking to them etc but Joe Walsh by all accounts was a blast very popular with everyone that met him .
You've obviously never met Richard Madeley then. He's a big Eagles fan.
Not many people are going to admit to being Dire Straits fans. One of the uncoolest bands of all time, up there with Genesis.
Glad to hear it.... it always annoyed me on Money for Nothing... the rant he has about Gary Numan being a F***got  ok it was 1985 but still very un-PC for the time.... apart from anything WTF!!!
I would be with you on that. Poco were a better group and had better songs but didn't have the worldwide sales. I still have and listen to the 'Rose of Cimarron' album. I have a couple of The Eagles records, I think the attraction was the Americana aspect of it...used to love 'Take it to the Limit', 'Best of my Love', 'Peaceful, Easy, Feeling' - great for learning guitar to.
I think Johnny Walker and Bob Harris might be fans.
Eh? Is that a joke? The song was written from the point of view of someone Knopfler met, he wasn't actually calling anyone a f***** himself to be fair. And Gary Numan isn't mentioned in the song

He said in an interview it was about an obnoxious "artist" he met. Newman was mentioned years later
From Wiki
The song's lyrics are written from the point of view of a working-class man watching music videos and commenting on what he sees.
Mark Knopfler described the writing of the song in a 1984 interview with critic Bill Flanagan:
The lead character in "Money for Nothing" is a guy who works in the hardware department in a television/custom kitchen/refrigerator/microwave appliance store. He's singing the song. I wrote the song when I was actually in the store. I borrowed a bit of paper and started to write the song down in the store. I wanted to use a lot of the language that the real guy actually used when I heard him, because it was more real....
In 2000, Knopfler appeared on Michael Parkinson's interview program and explained again where the lyrics originated. According to Knopfler, he was in New York and stopped by an appliance store. At the back of the store, they had a wall of TVs which were all tuned to MTV. Knopfler said there was a man working there dressed in a baseball cap, work boots, and a checkered shirt delivering boxes who was standing next to him watching. As they were standing there watching MTV, Knopfler remembers the man coming up with classic lines such as "what are those, Hawaiian noises?...that ain't workin'," etc. Knopfler asked for a pen to write some of these lines down and then eventually put those words to music.
I've never heard Gary Numan mentioned anywhere, but the point is that it's not written from Knopfler's point of view.
So what, should he find every artist lovable?
To the Eagles I love their Live albums.
