You're Next looks like the shot in the arm the horror genre needs

This new release looks amazing! 'You're Next' is the latest in the line of "home invasion" thrillers such as 'Funny Games,' and 'The Strangers.' It's been getting favourable reviews amongst critics on both sides of the pond and looks set to revitalise the horror genre with a well judged balance of humour and a barrel load of suspenseful sequences. The 'Scream' franchise is synonymous with self referential, meta narratives seeking to comment on the genre. Ironically, that has probably now become slightly stale as the future now appears to be on going back to good old fashioned scares to engage modern audiences. 'You're Next' is released here in ten days...will you be catching it?:)

This film looks ok but i would love for them to have powers and freak out the family, that would be a great 'home invasion' film.
Personally I don't watch many horror films, but whenever I'm looking at the new releases on the TV to rent it seems that half or more of all films available are horror films. So it seems to be in good health.
Some weeks its impossible to find any new release that doesn't involve people breaking down and getting stranded in the woods.
Trailer did mot impress me, and I am wary of anu such vague reports from festivals and advance screenings.
Official reviews are usually embargoed until nearer release time, and these advance mutterings are usually droven by the publicity team anyway.
You're absolutely right. It could have been a brilliant horror but took the thriller route.
like cabin in the woods i think the people who will enjoy it the most are those who know lots about the genre.
And then turned off at the end on to "utter shite" avenue
I think I'll give 'You're Next' a try but I'm not expecting too much from it if I'm honest.
As to whether it is a shot in the arm, I'd have said given it is following a 'home invasion' theme, which has been done before, the OP is being very generous!:D
Loved Cabin in the Woods- a brilliant idea executed with flair, imagination and sophistication.
I can assure you that isn't my job title, although it does sound like quite a nice position to have!:)
Fairly solid film and plenty of gore-porn, plus it was nice to see an 18 rated horror in the cinema, hopefully more will follow.
However I'm afraid I more or less guessed the "twists" and so didn't find it as fresh or exciting as had been suggested. I was really hoping for it to surprise me but it didn't really. The very end was a scene I was expecting to see.
But overall I found it ok, just not the revelation/twist/freshness I expected. Whereas, for example, Cabin In The Woods was a bit of a genre shifter/play on the horror film which genuinely surprised me (I watched it not having even read a thing - I was expecting a straight up horror).
