Hi all. As I'm at the end of my contract I called three and downgraded to their one plan sim only plan for £18 a month on a rolling contract. There's no phones at the moment that interest me so I want to keep my options open.
1. The agent told me if I went for a 12 month contract on the one plan I would be able to upgrade at any time without a charge.
2. The agent also said Three can put up the price of their 30 day contracts any time they like whereas if I went for a 12 month contract I would be protected from price rises, even in a few years time.
Are any of the above statements true or am I wise sticking to a 30 day rolling contract? I've no interest in changing networks as I really need unlimited tethering.
Thanks.
Rik.

I would assume that Three would be willing to allow the OP to upgrade during the 12 month contract as that way they make more money, but the OP just wouldn't be able to cancel or downgrade further in the 12 month period.
what jabba said reason they want you on 12 month so you are tied to them for a certain amount of time unlike 30 day contract.
Unlike other companies who may allow you to upgrade free of cost during 12 months, Three do not.
I'd advise the OP to get in writing first if he still wants to consider a 12 month agreement at the cheaper cost.
Regarding price increases- Any network can increase costs at any time 1) by RPI once every 12 months 2) Over RPI any time.
Number 1 is legal, number 2 is also legal but in that case you would be allowed to be released from your contract with no charge.
The last time Three increased prices was by RPI increase. And they only did it for people in 12/24 month contracts. So 1 month was unaffected. So the guy on the phone has told you the opposite of what was true. Same with the whole upgrade any time during 12 months...
i wouldn't believe anything they say and like you said your self stick with the 30 days if you are happy with what you got
They can't just up prices when they feel like it they have to have a good reason
I am with 3 on there £6.99 12mth deal which does me because i also have the Ovivo sim as well so i use both but i don't have any intention to move to a different provider at that price
3s the best signal where i live anyway.
Actually they can. Like i said they can increase prices whenever they want as long as they notify you 30 days before and as long as it is no more than RPI increase.
If it's more than the RPI increase or it's a price increase more than once in 12 month period then Three can still do it but the customer has the right to cancel with no penalty.
Yes you can.
You can tether as long as you're on the One Plan on a 1,12 or 24 month agreement.
As Jabba said, as long as you're on The One Plan you can tether, doesn't matter 1 second, 1 month or 12 months
30 day always better. More negotiation options and options to move.
I enjoy very fast mobile broadband via Three:D
I guess you wont be a customer of any company and will just live in a hole then, as all companies get people working for them who may lie
Out of interest, which service provider are you with anyway?
Just that Three seem to instruct all their sales agents to lie.
My brother in law signed up to 12 month one plan because he was told the same as the OP. When he broke his phone and asked to upgrade to a 24m contract with a new phone 8 months in they said he could not.
To be fair Vodafone are the same.
O2 is the only network i've been with who have been 100% honest all the time.
Thats not true. Some sales people can offer better deals. Three have never lied to me.
if you are offered a deal its always good to record the call / get some details for when you call back.
Come out of your hole.
All companies lie, Three, Vodafone, O2.... its called business
Yes you can. I tethered 124 GB during June 2014
I'm on the £12.90 monthly sim only but if i could get some tethering for an extra £2.10 i'd commit for a year.
not any more no its £20pm now on a 12month sim only or £23 on the 30 days sim only,
Ash
Cheers, i didn't realise the first post was from October last year!
