What is it with Android and updates, do they do it on purpose, just to make you buy a new phone?

Says it needs 4.0.3 and up. Which is ICS
Just installed it on my s2 - seems ok,
The Ace 2 runs Gingerbread with an update to 4.1 Jelly Bean on the way.
Part of it is down to the reluctance of the manufacturers releasing drivers for older chipsets but the reasons are many and varied as to why it takes so long. The update are quick on Nexus handsets but Google only has to concentrate on one or two handsets at a time and like Apple it doesn't announce an update until it is actually ready, the problem for android is that all the other manufacturers are then playing catch up to make it fit on their devices.
TBH the Ace 2 is such a poor spec these days you should be over the moon it is coming at all.
I haven't encountered any apps that won't work on my galaxy note yet, but I would like jelly bean considering that it's been out nearly a year now and note 1 users were promised many of the software features from the note 2, yet they haven't materialised. I'm sure key lime pie will be out before the note gets jelly bean.
I made a thread on this very issue some months ago and the general consensus seemed to be that people don't really care about updates but seems as though they do.
It's why I made a switch to a Nexus. Pure google and no waiting months and months for updates. When I was told no ice cream sandwich for Desire HD that was it for me.
It's something that will always annoy people. Of course the phone still functions without but people like to be up to date. If the hardware can handle it then there should be updates. Problem is you get all the extra stuff on top of Android.

I was thinking of doing that but I'd be afraid I'd break the phone or void the warranty. Maybe I should wait for the official update.
As the official one is out, wait.
