Ladies and gentleman, the wait is OVER! A few days ago, Battle Of The Seasons returned with me as your host once more. This could be the best Series yet and why do I hear you ask? Well my list of experiences of hosting (and mentoring) is long and I plan to make it longer. So last time, we announced who was joining the panel and which acts were joining in their respected years or team classes and we have a mixed bag of variety this year. So tonight, our Top 16 will sing live for the first time and the theme is Top Ten's, let's hope we don't have any chart-floppers!

Speaking of which. Judges, can you please confirm your presence!

We'll start with the 2010 class and opening the show with his last request (shouldn't that be first?), it's Aiden Grimshaw!

Congratulations on kicking off the second series of Battle of the Seasons! As an act I really like you and think you have a fantastic tone to your voice; you always put so much emotion and passion into what you sing and I think that is what makes you great as an act. As a song choice I thought it was ok, however personally I would've liked to have seen something a little more edgy and something with a bit more grit in it. I have no doubt you will go far in this competition, so it will be good to see what Jack does with you in future shows. Well done on a good first performance.
Aiden, it wasn’t exactly a big risk or anything but I felt for the first show we just needed to show everybody what you are capable of and how great your voice is and that performance did just that. So great job, well done!
George's Comment
Aiden: I really like this song and I thought your performance was beautiful. You really bought out all your emotion and passion for the piece so a massive well done to you.
Next up is the first of the 2008 class and she's got love on top (Oooh-errr), it's Alexandra Burke!

Alex, that was a great performance! Like with Aiden, you went for something that wasn’t a big risk but definitely showed off your voice well. The only gripe I have is that it wasn’t quite in your tone so you should have a look into that for next time but apart from that good job!
Hmmm I'm in two minds about that performance on one hand it showed off your voice, on the other hand it was basically a karaoke performance of Beyonce. If you've got an act who has similar styles to Beyonce, you don't give her Beyonce to sing. It's like giving Union J a One Direction song. So overall it was an ok first performance but for future shows it may be better to try and think of something more original/ different than going for something which is going to draw comparisons to the original.
George's Comment
Alexandra: Alex, you rocked. Beyonce is definitely your style, and it may have come across as a predictable choice, but there is no denying that it was a great performance.
Now for the first of 2012 class and tonight, she is fallin' over with this song, it's Melanie Masson!

The first few seconds; absolutely wow and then I found it kind of peaked after the first verse and then I felt it went a slightly bit repetitive and you weren't able to show off your amazing voice again. It was a good first performance but feel with this theme being so open it would've been nice to get your vocals into something edgier, rockier and enabled you to basically show off the power of your voice. Well done, but hopefully you'll do something in that vein in the next show
Melanie, that was great! Your voice really shone tonight without going for an obvious rock song. Melanie has won a competition recently, and when I mentored her on XF vs The Voice she ended up 14th going out in Week 1, so I’m interested to see how this goes. Good job!
George's Comment
Melanie: Oh My Gosh, that was amazing. I definitely wasn't expecting that on the first live show, honey it was great.
Next is the first of the 2011 class, they recently won Back To Basics Series 2 but are looking for another win! It's those four muffins, Little Mix!

Girls, I’m not really sold on this one. It didn’t really show off your vocals too well, despite suiting you but there wasn’t much variation at all. I’d like to see you try and do something where the tone changes throughout and we can have a better sample of your voice. But in these games, Little Mix always seem to get better throughout so let’s see what happens later in the competition.
George's Comment
Little Mix: I thought this was an average performance, nothing special. But a good attempt., but not up to the spectacular standard I was expecting
So now we'll wind back to 2008 and with a cover that is a mash-up of two songs, it's Eoghan Quigg!

A Great first performance from you girls and one that showed off your performance skills and showcased you individually as well. There is plenty of time to show an acts versatility throughout these competitions and as first performances it was strong and was something very much in your domain. Individually you have great voices; ogether you have amazing voices, I hope people ge behind you this eveni vote you through
I'm all for taking risks but aside from the rapping issues (as it was just uncomfortable to experience), I just don't think you have the vocal ability to pull off the highs of that song. I appreciate that your mentor was trying to do something a bit different with you, but I really don't think it worked and at times it was verging on a bit car crash territory for me. Good luck in the voting tonight.
George's Comment
Eoghan: Great performance man, but this is by far not the best. I have a lot of ideas for you, so I really hope you stick around for a while
Eoghan, that is how you do it! That was really good for a Week 1 performance. I think you showed off your vocals perfectly, really impressive. Good use of the mash-up too, but it was a bit strange just in the link as the beat changed completely. Apart from that good job!
Now for the 2012 class and she's singing about someone she used to know (break-ups, eh?), it's Ella Henderson!

I thought that was a good first performance, however I felt like I was waiting for something which didn't happen; I was waiting for the power and the drive of your voice to really come through. However whilst the song choice was nice to hear your tone, I think as it stayed pretty much on the one level and you weren't allowed to really put your voice across. You've got the strength, the power and the tone in your voice, hopefully next time you will be given a song where you can showcase all three.
