All the main media outlets are now saying Bonnie Tyler is our Eurovision representative with the song Believe In Me, written by Desmond Child (Livin' On A Prayer, Waking Up In Vegas, Old Before I Die, I Was Made For Loving You)

No official @bbceurovision statement until March 18th, despite Daily Mail and Mirror claiming they know who 2013 UK eurovision act is.
He's just admitted he doesn't know who our act is.
BBCNews is not connected to the BBC Entertainment division.
It's Bonnie.
So you work for the BBC Eurovision Delegation? I'm not denying it's her but you can't prove it!
Of course I don't, but when she's got quotes about how honoured she feels to be representing us in two national newspapers, I'd say that's proof enough.
Exactly NEWSPAPERS. The same newspapers that constantly post untrue stories all the time and ones that reported that Alicia Dixon and Atomic Kitten were going to compete for us
But they didn't have quotes from Alesha Dixon or Atomic Kitten.
It's in black and white Bonnie saying she's "honoured to be representing her country".
The Daily Mail may be an odious rag, but they are not allowed by law to completely make up quotes. The guy who denied it is a sports journalist who did the same thing last year with The Hump.
The reason why we do so shit is because we always send shit acts with mediocre songs. We need an entry that is gonna sing & perform with a song that has a big sound that's popular today. Look at the recent winners.
Just heard it announced on Radio 5.
I think thats just why BBC send old artists now, they dont care about winning, and we all know we will never get close so I think its more the British sense of humour to have a laugh with it all
Bottom 3 placing for sure
Probably because 'fresh and relevant artists' (and you'd be pushed to find many of those anyway) don't want to do Eurovision in the first place. In any case, Eurovision is hardly the home of anything fresh and relevant in the first place.
On many levels, Tyler is actually a smart choice. She has a bigger profile on the continent than she does here.
However ...
The song, judging by that Youtube clip, sounds like a work in progress. It certainly lacks a big anthemic chorus which typifies Desmond Child's best known songs.
The reason we now do badly at Eurovision isn't just about the quality of the acts we send - and Tyler has to be better than the likes of Andy Abrahams and Josh Dubovie (or whatever his name was). It's about three voting blocs that now dominate the contest: Scandinavia, Eastern Europe and the ex-USSR countries. Busting that apart is a tall order, and only Germany managed that with their Lily Allen-esque winner which was distinctive and different enough to stand out. 'Believe In Me' isn't.
No the reason we always lose these days is because we're hated by the other countries for political reasons. We could dig up the Beatles and have them sing the best song ever and we'd still lose.
The quality of the song means shit
The whole idea of the contest is to write a a song that will appeal to the whole of Europe, not just the UK - in fact, appealing to the UK is way down the list as we cant vote for it!
Remember, when Abba won Eurovision their style of music was not the most popular with the record buying public at the time but they created a song that was catchy and well written. Plus, Eurovision was taken seriously by the BBC and given the recognition and promotion it deserved
Thats not true as Jade proved.
The problem is, as evident in this thread, the British public don't back the UK at Eurovision and always moan about it. While countries like Sweden, Germany and Romania take the show very seriously. So thats the issue. They think we dont want to be there so shun us. The truth is we love being in Eurovison and you all know it.
Exactly!! we posted at the same time!
We could send Adele, One Direction, Girls Aloud and David Bowie and the UK would still not win.
Good for Bonnie. Hope she has a great night. *Plays Total Eclipse of the Heart*
Good to see someone else who doesn't believe the nonsense
