Problems with a range of sites but not all?

Is anyone having problems accessing some sites (google, BBC News and others)?

I am with BT Infinity and a speedcheck is giving me good down and up results.

Seems very strange. BBC and Google are working again now, but other sites (eg. BBMax speed tester) still are not.

Tried some other DNS settings (currently on auto) but didn't seem to help.

    Hi,

BBMax is working here, maybe a routing issue. Have you tried a tracert to see if there is an issue with one of the hops?

No, but I don't really understand what I would be doing or how to interpret the results.

Anyway, I will have to leave it for now as our meal is almost ready.

Still having problems this morning. DS Forums OK, but some others not OK.

Have tried Tracert, but don't know what the results mean:

I am getting similar problems accessing things from my iPhone via the same WiFi route.

    Further info:

I have rebooted my Home Hub and the BT Modem with a power down/up cycle.

The PC was powered off overnight.

I have tried another browser (normally Firefox but tried IE).

I am baffled. I might be less so if it were all sites which were failing, but it is the way it is just some.
Even on DS Forums it often hangs for a while on "Connecting to abc.hearst.co.uk".

I have managed to get onto the BT service status using my phone on 3G and it tells me that there is a problem in this area (among others) as a result of a cable theft somewhere. So we will have to wait and see.

Having problems here (BT, Edinburgh) - often get "Server not found" then click retry and the page starts to load but takes over 30 seconds. This is for BBC, BT, Facebook, DS sites.

Thanks for that Smiley. I was beginning to think it was just me - felt rather lonely!

Finally got onto the BT Service Status page and after entering my phone number it said there were no issues in my area. I did see the note about cable theft and it causing problems in a wide geographical area though.

Heading out shortly so I've not tried the router reset yet (also downloaded Firefox 20 yesterday but that was working fine last night), so might try that this afternoon if things haven't improved.

Not much improvement so I rebooted PC and router. There's an improvement certainly but there are some sites which are still a wee bit slow to load.

    Still no improvement here.

Quite a few sites (including this one at times) very slow and others (including google.co.uk) timing out before they can get there.

Finally, things seem to back to normal. Have been away from the PC all evening and just tried it again and all seems to be up to speed again. Must have been out for about 30 hours.

Service status not yet updated, so maybe it was quite recent.

I have been trouble accessing Facebook all day. It has been a real problem for me as I have a business page on there.

Thought it was just problems on my end.

Well, it might have been this. The exchanges mentioned for clearance today were
    Gatwick - 012935 (estimated clear date 03/04/2013)

    Darley - 014238 (estimated clear date 03/04/2013)

    Annan - 01461 (estimated clear date 03/04/2013)

Hanley (Stoke) - 01782 (esimated clear date 03/04/2013)

Knowing Annan quite well, I doubt if it had anything to do with the slow-down!

If the issues were related to thefts then perhaps we were encountering a routing problem?

I see that the BT list of areas affected by thefts/damage has increased considerably this morning. Some have resolution targets which are a week away.

What they say as a standard heading is
Due to suspected Cable Thefts & damage caused by 3rd parties, a small number of our customers in the below areas, may experience a loss of telephone and/or broadband services. We hope to have service restored as quickly as possible and apologise for any inconvenience this may be causing.
This is all on the BT Service Status page.
