That a Mrs Brown repeat nearly won the night for BBC1 and a YBF repeated repackage nearly won it for ITV, says it all. The verdict on totally unacceptable line ups from both.
Big drop for Splash. I think we can say even the "so bad it's good" crowd are giving up on it. Are ITV seriously giving this a second series??
Neither of the big two has much to celebrate in that lot. Pretty dire figures on the whole with a few exceptions like Casualty and Mrs. Brown.
Channel 4 took advantage of the almost non-existent competition with Mrs. Doubtfire. The family favourite peaked at 2.25m/9.9%. Average came in at 1.68m/7.5%.

The only programme that can really hold its head up is Mrs Brown's Boys.
Casualty will probably consolidate to 6m which is good in itself but at this time of year against an uninspired ITV line-up, it should be doing at least 1m better than this,
I agree with Ian Hyland in the Mail On Sunday regarding Splash. It's not the smash-hit that ITV are portraying it as. It's just not the ratings disaster some of us thought it would be. And most of the credit for that goes to BBC1 and their three brand new series. I saw the last 20 minutes of Britain's Brightest. Distinctly "meh" and getting the ratings it deserves.
Splash was down a whole 0.25m on last week and was still above 5m. A drop that barely registered. Take Me Out dropped a little more, as did Britain's Brightest, whilst In It To Win It seems lower than usual this year. Terrific performances from You've Been Framed and the Mrs Brown repeat on the fringes of primetime. Hammond is a disaster.

At least BBC One will have a reprieve from the dismal Animal Antics and Secret Service next Saturday. Please tell me that the BBC schedulers have seen sense and that the final two editions of both series will not come within touching distance of Saturday primetime again?

Very odd moment as the end credits of Casualty rolled last night with the announcer saying "And Ripper Street continues tomorrow at 9pm tomorrow", as if we had just been watching Ripper Street (this wasn't the usual style of plug for another BBC programme at the end of something that we're used to). Perhaps she was watching Take Me Out and wasn't paying attention. Stupid.
On another note, episode 2 of Great Night Out got an official rating of 4.12m. From a very low base it does seem to be adding quite a bit in the officials.
Britain's Brightest... I've said it before and I'll say it again - it's just too worthy and dry to be on Saturday nights. It's also so cynically produced - you can just see the producers saying, "I know - we'll liven up the maths game by bringing in star guests like Diversity and we'll have some Z list celebs for the weight game". Clare Balding made a joke about the Saturday scheduling on Graham Norton this week - he pointed out that it seemed out of place on Saturday nights... the joke is on her and the BBC for ever thinking this would take off.
One idea they might try is to repeat BBC Three and Four scripted output after the news.
I don't think we should expect a massive change post-22:35, however. Most of the year Question Time occupies Thursdays and The Graham Norton Show Fridays. On Monday to Wednesday over the next two weeks we have five new programmes and one repeat at 22:35. It may deteriorate, but we'll see. It's welcome to see ITV doing something in late peak, by putting The Agenda on Mondays after the news (albeit only 8 episodes in this run), but I reckon this is more about Ofcom box-ticking than a real desire to invest there.
Cohens suggestion is improvised drama like the true love week. I think he was implying experimental stuff is more cheaply made and they could perhaps unearth something
Just give the bbc some extra money its not like its massively expensive daily I think its less thaj a newspaper a day when worked out or it used to be anyhow perhaps someone on here could say but I dont mind spending a bit more on it if it were creating new things I dont watch mrs brown or citizen khan but id like to see more comedy invested in on the channel. I disagree with inflated managers fees of course. Apart from ben stephenson who seems to have turned the two main channels around.
Aside from You've Been Framed! (thanks Hammond...), I think everything is down week-on-week. The weather no doubt playing its part with most people being house bound for a week aside from work thanks to the snow.

That's actually a bit more encouraging! It's an enjoyable show, nothing earth-shattering, but it would do much better if earlier in the week (e.g. on a Sunday night).

I think Casualty would benefit so much more from being on during the week but I guess with Holby City that makes it impossible for the beeb as it would flood weeknights with too much of the same thing.

And the total viewership is terrible for winter, 23m approx on a January saturday!
TV this average would have struggled during the era of 4 channels, in the modern age it has no chance.

Almost two million for a repeat. I think this should have run over four weeks in january 7pm on bbc one on saturdays and pepped up the schedule.
What's so special on Wednesday? Africa? I watch the Sunday evening repeat of that.
