Steven needs to think about leaving

I do like Steven Moffat. Despite his flaws, I hugely respect him as a writer.
BUT...
He needs to go soon. Things are getting more and more confusing by the series with him in charge and my head literally hurts after watching his episodes and tonight was no exception.
From a recent interview, he made it sound like he might stay on after series 8. In my view, this should not happen. Give him series 8, and then hand the pen over to Mark Gatiss. I've had my doubts about Mark, but An Adventure in Space and Time on Thursday night shows how much of a fan he is and how suited he is to the show.

Gatiss writes good drama, but he is terrible at sci-fi.
I don't think it was perfect. But nothing ever is. (Except Blink. That is)
I do think after series 8 it's time for fresh blood. (Maybe even someone who knows the show but isn't such a fanboy that they get carried away). Just like after 4 and a bit series it was RTD's time to move on.
I watched tonight and I enjoyed it - but apparently he's wiped out a major event in the doctor's history, which makes future plots possible even more incomprehensible.
Would like to see what Mark Gatiss made of it.
He's not wiped out anything. He's just shown the 'truth' of what happened. Not one thing has changed that impacts upon what we know has happened. The only thing that has changed is that the 11th Doctor now knows the truth, and will be looking for Gallifrey, possibly.
I don't need to add anything.
I know right?!!!
I have been gob smacked how confused people have got from this episode.
It was actually incredibly simple to follow.
I do despair for people these days.
Have to say I too agree with this sentiment, I too found it easy to follow. I can't understand people who say they didn't understand the episode/story.
If that is the case, I would strongly advise these people to never watch Babylon 5 - Their head might just explode!
THE SHADOWS ARE MOVING AGAIN
No, not the Vashta Nerada.
Also, who would take over? It was pretty clear Moffat would do it after Russell, but Mark Gatiss is brilliant at drama, not at sci-fi like a lot of people have said. Some fresh writers wouldn't go amiss in the show.
Name & Day have restored my faith in him and anyway Toby is busy right now
Then again I'm a B5 fan too
Did it ever occur to them that maybe they are the dim ones because they were too busy marvelling at Daleks blowing stuff up and Tom B's fantastic cameo to notice a plot that wandered all over the place and left several strands unanswered?
I think Moffat is a fantastic writer but the Day of the Doctor left me rather confused because there was just too much going on. I much prefer it when Moffat tells a simple story well, such as Asylum or the Name of the Doctor.
I like Steven Moffat as guy, I love his RTD era stuff and the 50th for me was the best thing he has done since then. I think he absolutely nailed it.
But I am torn as I think Capaldi's Doctor needs a new direction in a show with a new tone to it. I think Moffat needs to ditch the timey wimey and character arc tags (been done to death now, it was part of Matt Smith run but it now needs a different style and tone for a new Doctor) and get back to a more basic a-b classic Who story telling. A-B storytelling can be as smart and clever as timey wimey..more so in my opinion. Ive never found timey wimey, beyond Blink, clever or complex..sometimes its a swizz, sometimes its a gimmick but mostly its been yawn inducing.
That said it worked beautifully in the 50th as a link up for the Doctors.
Just as RTD's style began to become too familiar towards the end his era the same can be said for Moffat's.
The basics need a shake up, if Moffats at the helm then great, but time for a new direction.
And after all my critisms of his writing and showrunning during the Matt Smith era I still think Moffats the guy to do it.
I pretty much agree with all of that. I am eternally grateful to RTD for resurrecting the show but it felt like the right time when he announced his departure and it seemed even more obvious to me that he had run out of ideas when I watched the End of Time.
I've also loved Matt's time as the Doctor but feel that it's the right time for a new direction. Moffat seems to recognise that too so hopefully he will use this chance to refresh his writing. The timey-wimey stuff was great in The Big Bang, but by the time of the Day of the Doctor is does begin to feel that he is recycling old ideas.
At the very least I hope that Moffat is thinking about an heir to his throne because all of the names that are frequently suggested on these forums fill me with dread.
On the contrary, I strongly disagree, I understood it, its not rocket science! ;-)
