So was scanning below 87.5 just now on my radio and came across this.
Is really strange as TV is all digital now here.
So wonder what is causing this?

It will be your radio overloading from a nearby transmitter.

Prob just from your local BBC transmitters. I get it on my Roberts personal radio with usually R4 coming though on 87.8 in a not especially strong signal area.

:D:D:D:D I know what that is!!

It's the Sky News link to their central London studio not Ch4, it's been on that frequency for years here in London.

There's been lift conditions today up the East coast so that's why you are receiving it - mystery solved.

Doing a bit of googling the exact frequency is supposed to be MHz - " 86.8375 SKY NEWS TALKBACK/SOUND vegetable LONDON FM "
(if you have a scanner / narrowband-FM receiver)

I assume its narrowband-FM so tuning it in on a radio which covers the Japanese FM band it will be significantly lower in volume than regular FM stations.

Spot on 35321 - I think it's coming from Sky's Isleworth studios and it is NBFM. It sounds much better on a scanner tuned to the 12.5 kHz channel.

I used to hear it many years ago (I can't quite remember the frequency, but I think it was around either 49 or 68 MHz) then it disappeared only to reappear on it's present frequency just outside of the Band II broadcast band.

Why do they bother with this in this day and age of cheap internet links?

I was also scanning below 87.5 today and picked up what seemed to be tv audio.I think there are quite a few analogue links still out there. I've stumbled across one in the UHF region .

In any populated area you'll find TV audio popping up in the UHF bands, coming from the UHF outputs of set-top boxes, Sky receivers etc.

Most of these have an analogue UHF output for feeding a TV set (as well as a SCART connection), and they mostly use frequencies around UHF channels 34-38 and 66-68, but can usually be tuned to any local 'white space' by the user.
