May 25th 1983, the last of the original trilogy to be released

Ok, it wasn't the best of the 3 originals but there were some dam good sequences

Battle of Endor and Luke v Vader to name but a few

Cannot believe that I was only 7 yrs old when this originally came out. May have to crack open the collection later & give it another watch. :D

I only caught up with the Star Wars films at the end of last year (I know, where have I been?) and I have to say I'm not a convert. Though if I were to pick a favourite, it would be Return of the Jedi.

The first film that I ever saw in a cinema. At the old Cannon Cinema in Queen Street in Deal, Kent. About year before it closed as well!

    I do remember that when
Vader was unmasked, the whole audience went : "Urgggh!" :D

The weakest of the trilogy - and at the time I hadn't seen "Empire"(that came the following year at the same cinema - it got a repeat showing), but still has some memorable moments - Jabba, speedbike chase, Luke and Vader battling it out, the Emperor, etc. Compared to the latest SW films - it is a masterpiece!

My favourite Star Wars. The last hour is just epic.

I think audiences were invested in those characters so the film seems better than it is.

But it's creaky and badly directed, rather like the prequels.

Effects and music raise it up somewhat.

A mere whippersnapper as the original film also had its birthday today - 36 years old.

Neither were released in the UK on the same day as the US however.

A shame that the movie has been vandalised by George Lucas.
