For me it's between..
Agent Rupert Anderson in Mississippi Burning
Little Bill Daggett in Unforgiven
I think the latter would win if pushed.

One of the few actors who never disappointed.
A true great imo.
ps maybe Popeye Doyle in both films.
Gene has appeared in some bad films but I've never seen a bad performance. He is one of the greats. Popeye Doyle is a fantastic creation (love both French Connections).
I think my favourites would be 'The Poseidon Adventure' and 'The Quick and the Dead' although I'm happy to watch him in anything.
Very true, he always gives 100%. I've never seen him "phone in" a part like some other actors.
Same here.
It's what I always think of furst when I think of Gene Hackman
Second film I think of him in is The Royal Tennebaums
But I'd have to say his performance in "The Birdcage". He was utterly hilarious.

Also in The Conversation. I loved his "said the duck" line in Unforgiven - no-one does menacing like Hackman either.
(can only find one with subtitles) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_bLR04OkC-I
I can't think of a younger actor with his screen power. Never seen him give a bad performance. Is it true that he always only does one take?
He is evil and yet funny at the same time
Pfft. He didn't even say Mass.
'The Conversation' or 'The Royal Tenenbaums' for me, but he's such a great actor there are many other films that I could pick.
Oh, and I too have a soft spot for 'The Quick & The Dead', it's a very daft film, but he's deliciously evil in it.
