Cost of leaving a light bulb on
Hi guys,
Just wondered if anyone knew the average cost of leaving 1 standard lightbulb on for 10 hours?
I accidentally left the living room light on today and my OH has had a right go at me for wasting money. I would like to know exactly how much money I've wasted if possible.
Thanks in advance
* dont worry as soon as I get home I'm changing it to an energy efficient one as well

An energy efficient OH?
I already have, I told him I'll refund him the pennies I wasted hence the reason for the question in the first place!
I'm going to give him the cost literally in pennies to prove what a to$$er he is.
chuck the pennies at his head
Sooooooo tempting!!
thank you! I told him its a pitifully small amount of wastage to get het up about but he doesn't agree hence why i wanted to prove him wrong!
Great, thanks! That'll be 8 pennies I'll be chucking at his head later
and what about the stress he caused me by phoning me AT WORK to have a go at me?? (and yes I'm still at work now!!).
He owes me dinner at the very least
What is the wattage?
If it was say 100W then it would burn one unit of electric in 10 hours. So what is your electric company charging you for 1 unit of electric? 11p maybe?
Using the UK average of around 12p per kWh (1000W per hour) then it would be (12/1000)x60x10 = 7.2p ! I'd give him 8p and tell him to keep the change.
Thats the thing, I'm dont usually leave lights on. Hence why he was in the wrong for having such a go.
Frankly he's just being a pillock, he must've had a shitty day and just decided to take it out on me.
He also has a NAS box which is on 24/7 so he doesn't have a leg to stand on frankly.
One of the reasons why I divorced him
In that case, no he doesn't so go ahead and throw the pennies!
Ah, one day a Bear Grylls lookalike will come and take me away from all this mundanity.....
Oh sorry, thought you were a lady of leisure and had it on all day doing your nails or something.
Tell him that the cost of the phone call was probably greater than the cost of leaving the light switched on for a few hours.
Don't most people leave a few lights on this time of year anyway - just so the house doesnt look empty.
