The daily telegraph say that the renovations are being paid from the public purse. The royals are reported to be covering the cost of interior design though. Big deal .... That will be a couple of fleur de lys cushions and some tartan throws!:D:D

Can't do a link but its on there.

That's on the Kensington Palace Renovation (part of Crown Estates), It's Almost Certain that Sandringham Estate will fund the renovation of Anmer House on the Sandringham Estate as they (The Queen) will retain ownership of it.

The Queen Mother left an Estate estimated at £70m (at least, though with £7m cash debts) and that was inherited by The Queen free of inheritance tax (The Queen did not pay inheritance tax on her mother's estate, since bequests from a sovereign to a sovereign, or from the consort of a sovereign to a reigning monarch, are exempt) and further bequests to her Great Grandchildren were made from that.

Diana was also a beneficiary of a trust set up by her Father Earl Spencer, the income from which would have also passed to her children.

We will never get to the bottom of Royal finances, they have more Trust funds than the Guinness and Vestey family combined (Google them).

The amounts paid to them from the public purse are dwarfed by their personal expenditure and vast private estates. (Balmoral is 49,000 acres)

Hope it's girl who will eventually be called Queen Margaret long after my death as I am too old to see her crowned.

I wouldn't worry your head about her. She'll have airconditioning, dampened facecloths rinsed in rosewater, cooling fans, egyptian cotton towels, softened water face sprays, natural sponges etc etc.

This is no ordinary birth ................ :D:D:D

What? It's a Marks & Spencer birth?

(Mind you, they've got some lovely stuff in their autumn collection...)

Oh — good point. Although I must say I'd forgotten all about Thatcher. Time to make the name stand for someone else. And rather than shortening it to Maggie, Peggy would do better. :)

A poem for the new royal baby

The week we wait with breaths abated
And around the hospital we congregated
For there's to be a exciting event
A royal baby is heaven sent
A boy a girl it matters not
It'll gurgle and giggle in its cot
Let's celebrate with flags a waving and a flying
And remind each other that the royals are not a dying.

Not sure libeling members of the royal family is a good idea.

And on topic, I can't imagine this weather will be very comfortable for a woman who's 8+ months pregnant.

    Margaret Elizabeth Mary Jo -
Who cares what's she called as long as she's no ho
For the chimes of the clock whispereth away
And we wait and we pray on this truly amazing day
    It's a he! It's a she! crieth that nurse
It's so small it could fit in her purse
And as it grows to be a royal
So we must cherish it on our saintly soil
For baby's come but once a year
And today's the day -don't shed no tear!
It'll be wrapped up like a baby dove
And baby Windsor we send you hot hot love.

Some People really couldn't care a jot
About the arrival of a royal tot.
We don't know them, we don't care
In your adoration we don't share.
    "Heaven sent" .... That IS a joke:D
She got it from her princely bloke.;)
As we all do .... She's just like us
So why are you making all this fuss?

Isn't it rather insulting to gays to suggest that an allegation someone is homosexual is libellous, which means a statement that is considered liable to lower a person in the eyes of the average person, if it is believed.

I wasn't thinking of Thatcher. I was just thinking 'Maggie' is such an unattractive and undignified abbreviation-and I've no doubt at all the press would use it, rather than 'Margaret', all too often.

I immediately thought Maggie Simpson!! Margaret is a lovely name but too many ways to shorten it.

Yes I expect tabloids couldn't resist going with the diminutive 'Maggie.' :o

But she's the poet laureate ;)

I think we could write a better poem than that though.

There once was a girl from Berks.......
