So what do we think the big reveal is going to be at the missing episodes panel?
Personally, I reckon there's going to be a big concerted effort to do more animated episodes now that the complete stories have dried up for the Restoration Team (only two left!) and we'll get two or three full stories announced for reconstruction - and at a total guess I would predict:
The Power of the Daleks (one of the most sought-after missing episodes, so a guaranteed big-seller)
Fury from the Deep (an absolute gift to the animation team, but a real challenge - so big hype.)
The Celestial Toymaker (we'll need a Hartnell one thrown in, and this would be a strong choice).
I though the latest information about Ice Warriors was that the DVD would contain the VHS reconstruction rather than animated episodes
No it was stated the vhs recon is included but not mentioned whether or not its being animated. As steve roberts has explicitly stated on gb forums that the vhs recon is a dvd extra i would assume something else is being used in the main feature. Id assume animation
what is the possibility of the crusade/the under water menace/the moonbase all being animated for a separate DVD release?
The underwater menace and moonbase are both good possibities if they choose to or not is another question. The crusade maybe less so and not due to affordability. The plot of crusade has some religious motivations in the story and has some actors "blacked up". With the bbc under close scrutonisation with the savile case amongst other things i can see them come under heavy fire for releasing a doctor who dvd that features the background topic of religion and blacked up actors even if it was the norm for 1965. Mind you i cant remember the last time i watched/listened to it (possibly mid 2010)so if anybody knows more about the story feel free to correct me

That does seem like a good reason NOT to animate the crusade, but if they do decide to animate all the lost episodes after all surviving material has been released on DVD (there is a convention at the end of this month on the animation so they will probably announce some animations then) then this, along with the moonbase and the underwater menace are probably the most likely DVDs to get animated (not counting tenth planet and ice warriors).:)

I agree with most of this. However, I disagree with the sentiment of not animating the missing episodes over the whole blackface thing.
We shouldn't allow some people's "sensibilities" to force us into censoring ourselves. All of Doctor Who should be released in as complete a form as possible. The other two episodes have already been released. The animations can portray the characters more "sensibly" if that is what is necessary. However, giving in to such (not even controversy, but the fear of a theoretical, possible controversy) is horribly self-defeating.

All in all, it's everyone's personal opinion, and if it was animated and put on to DVD, i would certainly buy it, i don't see what is wrong about it. I mean, it is the 1960's we are going on about, of coarse they are going to black out peoples faces.
Personally i would I think given the way the show currently casts actors there should be a an understanding that that was then and this is now. Also they released Talons of Weng Chiang which has a an English actor made up to look Chinese.

I would like a release of crusade but at the moment the bbc is under heavy scrutiny and the bbc seem to be taking the route of playing it safe in regards to not offend people. Look at the recent edits of fawlty towers for 1 example.

BBC Censoring is nothing compared to other channels. Take Channel 4's censorship of The Simpsons, for example. They're almost insanely vigilant about it.

Editing vintage shows that are broadcast on TV is not a new thing. Only Fools and Horses has long been a victim of this as well but as far as I know the shows usually appear intact when they are released on DVD. I guess the distinction is that anyone could stumble upon something that it broadcast on national TV and be accidentally offended by it but if you are seeking to buy something then you are usually familiar with the content.
Also, the Fawlty Towers thing is blown massively out of proportion - they [quite rightly] didn't air the n-word at a time that they weren't allowed to air the n-word. They didn't cut that line from the master copy, they didn't ban the episode they didn't make any comment about whether or not the line would be allowed in should the episode be repeated post-watershed.
There was no problem with the joke itself - which is aimed AT racists, rather than being racist itself, nor did anyone involved with the edit ever hint that it was the joke itself that was the problem.
They simply didn't include vile language to be aired at a time when they are not allowed to air that language. They'd do the same if the word was "f***", "s***" and so on - people only made a fuss this time because Fawlty Towers is perceived as a national treasure, and the Daily Mail, The Sun and their hordes of delusional, idiotic and rabidly quick-to-anger readers just love to froth at the mouth about how our "British heritage is being destroyed by Political Correctness, it's Broken Britain, and it's because of benefit/scum/bankers/immigrants/The BBC/etc."
It's a non-issue about swearing being cut from a timeslot when swearing is not allowed. That is literally all there is to it. To think that something like that will stop a home release of Doctor Who is absolutely absurd and - yes - smacks of trying to make a problem where there is none. As has already been pointed out, Talons got released - TWICE - and that has a prominant character not only in yellow-face, but also [admittedly for in-story reasons, but still] talking in a "flied-lice" charicature accent.
If they want to animate the two missing episodes of The Crusade, they will (and I'm sure that they do, as IIRC the VHS sold pretty respectably).
I suppose the issue lies with how noticeable the blackface is. I haven't seen The Crusade's surviving episodes in years, can anyone enlighten me as to how obvious it is?
I ask because if it's really distinct and gives the character(s?) a definite look, then that would put the animation team in the really horrendous position of having to animate blackface, which even as a liberal-minded guy I would find a little bit uncomfortable. If it's not too noticeable, they can just animate the characters as black people and I don't see the problem, because the two episodes with blackface in have already been released on DVD years and years ago.
I just watched The Crusade (surviving episodes and telesnaps) recently and never noticed any blackface. Definitely nothing there of the minstrel-show variety.

How are they editing The Simpsons?
By the way, I just watched my copy of Destiny of the Daleks (which I had not seen in decades before I bought it last month) and I must say that I liked it. It wasn't as good as the preceding The Key to Time or the later E-Space Trilogy, but it was enjoyable. And I so love Romana II.

well put it this way, the simpsons is userly 20/25 minutes long, but channel 4 cut about 5 minutes of and stick about 10 minutes worth of adverts on. Also because it is shown at 6pm, they are more likely to cut things out, if this helps

Have C4 also cut out all the jokes from about season 5 onwards? (sorry probably wrong forum for that )

Any reference to sex and/ or violence, no matter how small or slight, is removed, ruining some great episodes. For example, the first I noticed of this was in the episode where Homer mistakenly buys an SUV intended for women. After Lenny and Carl confront him with this, Carl says of Marge:
I always thought she'd be a dynamo in the sack, you know?
Which C4 changed to:
I always thought she'd be a dynamo -- you know?
Which I found highly irritating. Day by day I notice more of these little oddities.

Oh, OK, fair enough.

I can but hope!?
The nine missing episodes of Master Plan would need to be animated as well before that could happen.
and mission to the unknown
(also i just signed up to this forum)

Please do not create problems that don't exist.
