I suspect that a lot of people these days have their 37 " TV plugged into their computor and surf on the TV
I have exactly that right now. The problem though is text size vs viewing distance.
The TV is 1080p. Even with Windows set to extra large fonts the text is too small to read comfortably at anything approaching regular living room viewing distances. Dropping the resolution to 1280x720 helps, and standard or large fonts works for me okay. But it's still not as comfortable as browsing off a laptop.
im watching with firefox
if you hit view top left, you get a drop down list,
hit zoom, that will make letters and fonts a lot bigger,
you should be able to solve that problem
also hit tools ... top left
then options
change the font to comic sans ms
and the font size to 20
I was looking at some pics taken off the net and so many of them..... maybe 80 percent are in the portrait mode...
often celebs full figure etc.
You are of course viewing these photos in landscape mode on your TV ..... so a lot of the screen is wasted.
Maybe TVs of the future will have motors that will move the TV into the portrait mode at the press of a button.... just like you can do with a tablet.... and the computor would automatically adjust.
For viewing about 80 percent of my photos... the portrait mode would be far far better.
I think more people have laptops or tablets on their laps for surfing, and have the TV on in the background. A telly is a terrible device for reading, and once you've discovered how easy it is to zip around with touch, you wont want to go back to wireless mice and horrors like that.
More and more TV programmes are going to be coming out that make use of a 'second screen', so you watch the programme on the big screen, and use your tablet to chat along with others watching the same programme, read more information about the subject, vote and other interactive things.
There was something in one of the newspapers a couple of weeks ago how kids now watch TV. In houses with a PC or tablet it was suggested almost half of those kids watched more TV on line than on a conventional TV. There's the future, right there.
There's nothing worse than surfing on a TV. It's OK for maybe googling a quick fact or two but that's about it IMO. The Tablet on the coffee table is for that in our house and is so much more convenient and a hell of a lot faster.
Any serious internet work is a no go on a TV. Much easier to do it the other way around and have TV on your PC.....;)

I guess that would depend on how the image was created. Some sort of projection based device would be easily adaptable.
Next time you are going through pics on your hard drive and watching them on your TV in landscape mode, think how much better those pics would be in portrait mode.... if your TV could be turned around .... 45 degrees......the pics would fill your screen instead of being very limited in the landscape mode.

People here aren't talking about using some browser app built into your smart TV, just talking about using your TV as a monitor effectively.
Two ways I'd do this - either Internet Explorer on the Xbox, controlled by an iPad with the SmartGlass app or an iPad using airplay mirroring with an Apple TV connected to the TV.
I don't want to control the tv via a touch screen phone or tablet or even use phone or tablet for exclusive use of the web, these are not proper computers more like toys. My HTC phone has a dreadfull (by my standard) touch screen + Android OS is a pile of poo compared to Windows7.

OK, My bad...:o.......Using large 1080p TV's to view the web is still a no go IMO. but each to their own...It's always going to be a personal preference.
The TV in the lounge is fine for watching our movies, either streamed or stored. However, for internet browsing and work the study pc can't be beaten. To be honest, the TV is for relaxing away from the PC and only used for TV, Films and the occasional PS3 game...
That said, I often watch movies on my pc monitor if the TV is in use for a chick flick.....;)
I envisage a black stand that will sit on your present
tv platform.... .
A press of a button on the remote control and your TV will rise up the stand, perhaps 22 " then swivel into portrait mode..... ideal for viewing photos from the net or from your hard drive.

Some prefer or make do with in built apps and browsing on smart tvs (capability will vary from brand to brand).
Lazy in what way?
