Greatest heavy metal vocalist alive?

I've been wondering who is the current greatest vocalist in metal? Obviously it was the great Ronnie James Dio but as he is no longer with us it's a tough call.

I would probably go with Rob Halford.

Jack Black - although he's an actor rather than a singer

Although I love Robert Plant I doubt he could be classed as a metal singer. I'll plump for Bruce Dickenson.

    They're rock singers, not metal.

If we're talking heavy metal singers, not growlers...

Rob Halford, Bruce Dickinson or Biff Byford.

Halford was very good but is a pale imitation ofa singer now

Bruce has the slight edge over Biff

Sorry to be pedantic, but rock, metal what would you say is the difference?

Christ, Corey Wassiname from Slipknot mentioned 11 posts before Bruce Dickinson?

That's a bit like having the blacksmith Werner Adolph Moritz (1831-1883) mentioned first in a list of the greatest people from Salzburg with the initials WAM.

Ok, Salzburg probably hasn't seen a better horse-shoer than Moritz since Gerhard Hargesheimer back in the late 18th Century, but still...

Well as Led Zeppelin were famed for inventing the genre now known as heavy metal you could at least give me Robert Plant ;) I would refer you to Communication Breakdown.....some heavy riffs on that bad boy...

There's nothing Metalheads love more than discussing the minutiae of genres.

I've lost count of the amount of times I've wanted to murder everyone in the world while listening to someone describe in detail why the band we're listening to at the moment is more Post-Industrial Metalcore rather than Melodic Mathcore.

Indeed......there should be a scale of Metalness to make it easier when answering questions such as the one posed by the OP ;)
