Google reveals own-brand tablet made by Asus
The device is made by the Taiwanese company Asus rather than the firm's own Motorola hardware unit.

It will be sold for $199 (£127) from mid-July pitching it directly against Amazon's Kindle Fire. It is set to be released in mid-July.

The 7-inch device has a smaller screen than Apple's bestselling iPad and is 340g meaning it is also lighter to hold.

It also features Google's Chrome browser at its default option - the first Android device to do so.

The machine features a quad-core CPU (central processing unit) and a 12-core GPU (graphics processing unit).

Anyone interested ?

Does is have a micro sd slot? If it does I'm definately getting this over the galaxy tab 2.

I'm hoping it does have one, but I have a feeling if it's competing directly with the Amazon Fire, it probably won't :(

Finally a company that didn't just replace the $ sign for a £ sign. I will be throwing my money at the screen for this.

I see they have adopted Apple model for storage pricing, £40 for 8GB, that's £5 per gig!

Ofcoarse if there was an SD card slot that wouldn't be an issue but there isn't.

I think Amazon may regret not launching the Kindle Fire over here.

I expect they will bring Fire II over when it's launched

There gonna have to get a move on then, before Google cleans up in the sub £200 tablet market for the UK.

    no Micro SD support.

IS there any reason why amazon did not release the fire over here ?

Damn is that a definate then? This review mentions it in the connectivity section.

    http://www.pocket-lint.com/news/46273/asus-google-nexus-tablet-features

Other reviews and news stories say there isnt one :(

    Edit:
Bugger, read a few more forums and articles and it's a definate. I was hoping to get a tablet and use internal storage as well as a 32gb card so I can take films and tv shows on holiday with me in August (never been a fan of the in flight entertainment).

I'm almost tempted to get a 7" tab at that price. No, I am tempted. are there any competitors at under £200 for a 7" tablet, without going all obscure brand on ebay?

But never mind the tablet, did you guys see the Project Glass demo!!! mindblowing.

Was that the sky diving video?

Im not sure what was so impressive about it tbh, it's been done before.

What would be cool is if google maps was overlaid in your vision!

not the promo one, no. I've been waiting for someone to put a vid up so I can share it.

didn't you watch the keynote? I thought you liked that sort of thing.

ps "done before"? even your beloved Cupertino-based company don't have a voice activated wearable camera/video camera with built in display that does live streaming and has internet access for under $2000.

I love that sort of thing, I didn't know it was getting streamed live!

Are they going to post up the full video?

I'm surprised there wasn't a post here about it.
