I've heard that, but of course we don't know when he was actually measured. I'm guessing that 6'3" was the measurement when he became an actor as a young man. I doubt they re-measure actors for the directory on a regular basis unless they shrink quite drastically.
I think 6'3" was correct for Tom Baker. Look at this clip of him with John Cleese. He's noticeably shorter than Cleese, who is around 6'5".
He seems to have taken to carrying a cane these days - I've been hoping that it's an eccentric affectation rather than something he really needs, though, as he was probably the most physically agile of the Doctors.
So How tall is David ,chris and Matt? i'm blown away that Paul is a little fella. and Pat's doctor always been referred to as the little man. Even in the Omen they call him the little priest. Maybe Tom did have a little hair advantage over Jon

Eccles is 6', David Tennant is 6'1"; Matt Smith's height seems to be different every time I try to look it up, either because, being Betelgeusian, his height is variable or possibly no one has yet managed to get him to stand still long enough to be measured properly. He's currently the fifth shortest Doctor at 5'11".
We haven't mentioned Peter Davison yet, either, who's 6'1".
Taking the difference in height between men and women into account, the tallest companion - the tallest regular actor, in fact - is Karen Gillan. By quite a long way.

Does Sylvester have a walking stick now?
No, no, no - he just appears shorter because he's slightly further away these days.

It suits him, anyway.

Stealing the crown from Hartnell's Planet of the Giants masterful "acting short" performance.
