The name really bugs me - nothing 'smart' about them at all
It puts BBC iPlayer on your tv without the need for an external device. Everything else is either crap or paid-for (or both).
Fairly obviously it has the HUGE advantage of not requiring the laptop and HDMI cable
And if you want to watch iPlayer or Demand 5, then it's an easy (if rather slow and limited) solution.
Generally you don't, it's pretty well a standard feature - whether you want it or not - but you can simply ignore it, like 3D.
Is that it????? I can see there might be a use for this in some area's but as we have Virgin Media Tivo that feature is completely redundant in our case.
A touch of tongue in cheek methinks We leave a laptop in the lounge to be ready if our daughter decides to skype us from uni, so one concealed cable is hardly a major hardship.
Again, Tivo is your friend Add to it the youtube app you can control from a tablet and not sure that I will ever need a smart TV.
Only partially - buying a laptop on top of buying a new TV is a bit 'over the top' just to get iPlayer.
If you already have the laptop (and a TV with a VGA socket), then there's little point.
Likewise, if you have an Xbox there's little point.
