Nah, I'm sure it's already on Sky over here and this is just a terrestrial premiere, right? I might actually start watching as I hear lots of good things about it. I'm just not sure if it's going to be my cup of tea...

It is already on Alibi (half-way through the 3rd season I think), and this will be a terrestrial premiere.
But give it a go. It's not just another crime series. The relationship between the 2 leads as the series goes on is what make it, plus Castle's home life with his mother & daughter. Castle's just a big kid at heart so his reaction to some of the crimes are priceless, while Beckett is all-work, to start with at least.
Nathan Fillian is always watchable, and there are plenty of references to his previous life in Firefly.
I'm about half-way through the first Richard Castle novel, Heat Wave, which Castle is writing through the first couple of series, and I've just got the second one while in the US.
I think it's a very good fit for the Channel 5 and Mentalist audience. Could definitely have the makings of a sleeper hit on the channel, in the same way that NCIS was just bought in as filler and has exceeded all expectations.
they probably took a punt on it and got lucky when it took off. the fact they're well in to season 3 probably does suggest they've got a long term deal for it.
It's great news that Channel 5 have got Castle so the UK viewers can see it in HD at last.I wonder if they have got the rights for the other seasons or just the first season?
It looks like it won't be shown in HD, sadly. It's not marked as such on the press booklet they sent out today anyway. They probably figured the extra expense wasn't worth it for second run rights.
It does directly replace The Mentalist on Fridays at 9pm. It will clash with The Kennedys on BBC Two for the first few weeks.
It is just Season 1 or Season 1 and 2, I'm guessing the first two season as Season 1 is 10 episodes and if they shown both seasons back to back, they would be able to show it before The Mentalist returns in January or February.
Great news. Have heard about the show and wanted to see it.
It looks to me like the 5 Family are great at getting shows that are shown on other channels and getting them out to Freeview viewers and Terrestrial viewers.
Thank goodness this is coming to Channel 5 instead of just being on Alibi. Now millions more people can see what a terrific show it is. The best show on TV (bar none - and that includes Bones, which I love). I've got the region 2 DVDs for seasons 1 and 2 from Amazon but unfortunately with non-English detail on the sleeves but the DVDs are in English (and they are great).

Radio Times shows it as SD only as well. Frankly what you would expect from Five who can afford to recommission awful reality junk but cannot even show CSI premieres in HD.

Hope that Castle gets a bigger following because of 5 showing it.
Bones next.
