5 hours to receive a text message - WTF?

A week ago I texted my brother and he received it minutes, then sent an immediate reply, which took almost 3 hours to get to me.
Today the same thing happened only this time the reply from him took just over 5 f**king hours!
I'm on O2 and I think my brother is on Vodaphone (have to check). There's no such delays sending/receiving texts with a friend (who I think is on Orange).
What on earth is going on? Is anyone else experiencing severe delays receiving text messages?

This could be caused by a number of things and so it’s worth checking/considering the following:
-Does your brother have this problem when he texts other people?
-Can he text other people who are on O2 with no problems?
-Have you ever had this problem before either with your brother, or texts from another number?
-Has he recently taken out a new contract or changed his number or SIM etc?
It could be that you’re not up to date on the network so I recommend both you and your brother try a manual roam.
You should find this in settings > network settings > select network then select another network (for you, anything other than O2), repeat the process and then select your network.
Once you’ve performed a manual roam, you’ll need to do a hard reset:
- Switch the handset on
- Whilst powered up, remove the SIM card and battery
- Put the battery back in and switch on
- Wait a couple of minutes, then remove the battery again
- Replace the SIM and battery and switch back on
Let me know how you get on.

I have found the word 'peril' causes my text to be delayed by around 5 hours, also 'terrorise'. What words did the text contain?
Hahaha, you can't be serious about this.
as jenny points out it's usually when your phone has stopped updating on the network. and sometimes it just happens. at lest vodafone support and do not charge for delivery reports.
Yes quite serious, automatic word flagging is there to protect against terrorism.
If they flagged and delayed every text message that included words like 'peril', they'd be completely overrun by messages. I'm not remotely convinced that it works like that.
I wish I could find the link...I'll keep looking.
It was after the 7-11 attacks that it was implemented properly. Perhaps it has stopped now but it was happening.
My son was on Tesco Mobile and my husband was on O2.
It's probable that text messages with key words such as 'bomb' might be flagged up for inspection by the network providers or even GCHQ, but that would not stop the message from being sent. They would take a copy of the data and queue it for inspection later.
Or more likely it never happened
Son should have tried calling!!
I confirmed with him that he is on Vodafone, and neither of us have changed SIMs/handsets recently.
Thanks for getting back to me.
We can check things at our end for you. Just ask your brother to email us from here: http://vdfn.co/email.
He’ll need to quote the code ‘WRT135 – FAO Lee’ in the subject line to ensure it’s routed to my team.
Once sent you'll receive an automated reply with a reference number. So I can make sure I've got it please update the thread with this and I'll get back to you as soon as possible.

I heard something too about millions of emails being scanned for the words 'Al Qaida' and 'jihad' and the likes.
