any help with RROD problem
i was given this xbox by my uncle who has gotten a new one
he said its had the red ring of death and it was repaired once already
its a black original style xbox
iv had it on for a good few hours today just browsing the menu and DLed 2 demos had a go but still no sign of the RROD so what actually causes it to pop up is it only when playing disk based games that it can happen??
and could i play games, run homebrew SW etc from an external HD and not suffer from the RROD

My second xbox went during gameplay. The screen froze and looked on grainy so I rebooted it to get the RROD. Now I have a slim model and haven;'t had an issue.
I did repair my first one by the way but that only gets you a few more months of life anyway.
It's on borrowed time ... once a system has ringed it's only fit 4 the skip ... As soon as it heats up BANG!!!!
will having it repaired fix it??? or is it still on borrowed time?
u might get afew weeks (or @ best months) but eventually you'll be back where ya started ... with a knackered xbox ... #sadbuttrue
Eh? When my Elite suffered RROD it got fixed by Microsoft and I then had another 18 months use out of it until I upgraded to the Slim. Once it was fixed it was fine.
In most cases a repair will only prolong the inevitable ... I've had 3 xbox ring on me so I would know.
(Besides if u wanna be clever Microsoft didn't actually repair your machine they probably just swapped the motherboard with a jasper instead cause its more cost effective then constantly sending ya machine back 2 them every few month)
Just because you were particularly unlucky (and I've had 3 Xbox's, too) doesn't mean everyone else will be.
Your a minority case ... Simple as that...
